Tai Chi Y3D104: The Daily Work

The daily work of tai chi is easier, even though I’m doing this more-intense sequence of breathwork and movement at the moment.  It’s always there as part of my day. It’s not always entertaining, not always refreshing, but it’s ever-present.

The newer parts of my practice, like the ten push-ups a day, are like little bon-bons of enjoyment — even though they’re hard, it feels good to know that they’re getting easier.  Today’s push-ups were so much better than my first ten — I didn’t half to stop for a moment at “7” to rest, but I was able to do all 10 today without stopping; I also was able to lower myself to just-about-touch my nose to the floor.  This is real progress in a couple of weeks.

But the older parts of my daily practice, these are normal now. They’re almost part of the furniture.  During a clean-up of my house and particularly my office this weekend, at one point I had an idea about repositioning some furniture… “move this carpentry table here, shift this table over here, and I could maybe move that chair in the living room over to … No, that won’t work. That’s where I stand when I’m finishing Buddha’s Palm.” I stopped mentally rearranging furniture when the rearrangement would steal space from my tai chi practice.

A couple of people have been in my office in the last few days for various reasons. Both of them said it smelled nice.  I find this a little surprising. I’m always sweating in here, and you’d think that scent would drive people away. But no, they seem to like it and appreciate it.  Weird.  From the Archive, on Day 104/year 1, I was performing tai chi outside, and going kayaking and not worrying about wi-fi connections.  In year 2/Day 104, I was doing waist bends.  The work was starting to show interesting results — my belly wasn’t hanging out as much any more.  I think my belly still doesn’t hang out as much any more — but I also think it hasn’t shrunk much either.
