Tai Chi Y3D284: Return to the North

Today’s the day I go back north to the cold and the snow.  I’m returning from 62°F to 31°F, at least at this early morning hour.  It looks like it’s not going to get much warmer.  Tai chi today was slow, but not slower, and certainly not tortoise.  I have to finish packing, too, and there’s much to do in the next hour before I go to the airport.

My drawing work on the tai chi form has hit a bit of a road block. The next three movements — Buddha’s Twist and Step Back to Drive the Monkey Away, and Cloud Hands —all involve moving forward-and-back, or side to side.  How does one represent this, when the only tools one has for creating depth is a flat color field?  My character has to begin to have depth and size — and the moment that I do that, I’m going to have to go back and re-create all these drawings to account for the character’s new depth and shape which isn’t just a flat cartoon character.  Ack.

That plan or program unnerves me a bit.  But at the same time, I accepted this challenge, and now I have to live with it.  I’ll figure it out.
