Even when I haven’t felt my best, I do the tai chi form to the best of my ability. So this morning, when I was dealing with some gastrointestinal upset, I still took the time to do the tai chi form twice: once because I left a segment out the first time, and the second time so that I could do it more slowly and accurately before racing to the bathroom. (I made it to the bathroom).
I’m getting to the point where I understand that tai chi by itself doesn’t have any special poses or internal qualities that empower me beyond the strength of mere mortals It’s just exercise, in its most basic form. Yet underling that exercise is a model and a philosophy of progressive strength development. And that project requires self-discipline. Even when you’re sick.
