When one’s legs are bent at the right angle, so that the knees are no farther forward than the imaginary line rising at a right angle from the toes on the floor, the thigh muscles and buttocks engage to lock the hips in place. When this is arranged satisfactorily, it becomes possible to twist at the waist during the turns and punches of the qi gong movements, and the tai chi form. The result is a stronger movement, and the development of a greater internal strength.
