Enter Clio, Wet.

Enter Clio, Wet.

So… Clio has now been swimming a few times… once with and me down in South Dartmouth, once with me alone down there, once in a stream in the park in Amherst, and now down in the school pool. She’s not really a big fan of it yet.

She’s also gone kayaking with me a few times, and that’s particularly nice. At first she’s all nervous about falling in the water, and eagerly seeks a way to escape. Then she settles into it, resigned. Finally, she falls asleep, and treats any interruption as a serious breach of etiquette.

She does seem to know what to do when in the water. She’s a strong paddler with her webbed doggie toes, and I’m proud of her for trying. I just hope she gets to the point where she’s willing to stay in the water a while.

  1. At some point I want to bring her to a poetry reading… but since she has to stay in the car rather than come to the reading, that may be more trouble than it’s worth. So your insides don’t have to day any time soon.

  2. That’s good to know. At the moment she’s driving me semi-crazy with the unbearable cuteness of being.

  3. I’ll join the chorus of people who think Clio is unbearably cute. If she’s anything like Sam, the part-lab mix I grew up with, the problem will soon be how to get her *out* of the water. And any available swamps/marshes/large mudpuddles.

  5. Oh day-um, she is suuuch a cutie.

If you keep her with the water thing, she’ll be fine. I think the fact that she calms down enough to sleep is telling – it’s not all-threatening to her. I have to admit, the way it feels in water can be like getting rocked to sleep, I bet she loves that part.

If you exercise first and then let her wander around in the water up to her tummy and a bit further, it’ll be great. Since they cool from their belly, they say getting them all hot exercising and then doing water things (like giving them a bath) makes them much more willing to go along. Makes sense. 🙂

She is such a cutie pie.
