Willimantic Nights

Yesterday I didn’t do a whole lot. I needed a day in to do some cleaning, to fold and put away laundry, and get my head together after a long year. I got my head together, and got laundry folded, and did some cleaning, but I didn’t get the laundry put away. Maybe this afternoon, I’ll get that done. I worked some more on getting The Knitting Lesson memorized, but finally gave up, and gave my attention to the Hymn for Summer Solstice yesterday, which I had pretty much memorized by dinner time.

My turtletribe buddy John called last afternoon, and at just the moment I was dithering about going to the Worcester Youth Poetry night. He sounded down, so I went down to Willimantic to meet up with him and cheer him up. We wound up chatting from about magick, magic, science, religion, drugs, society, family, tribe, and more until almost 11:30. A good time was had by all.

This morning, I went out to do t’ai chi at 6 or so, and then wound up going for a walk over to the school next door, and doing the walk we call the P. I took my iPod with me, which I don’t use as much as I thought I would, and listened to the recording of The Knitting Lesson about four bazillion times until I had the poem mostly in my head. Then I walked for another hour or so reciting it with the recording off. It worked, and it was a more effective way to learn the piece than constantly reading it out loud, the way I did yesterday. I need to do the same with Midas, and I find myself wishing that I’d spent more time recording the ‘big pieces’ with several weekends ago. Athena and Ariadne, Showdown at the Acropolis, Oedipus Noir, Cupid and Psyche, King Midas, The Song of Creation, the four typed-up chapters of the Inarion, and the Death of Atlantis (which is a 30-45 minute piece by itself, as is). Those would be great fun to have in head and heart, to be able to whip out at a moment’s notice. And then I wouldn’t have to worry, either, about having a complete set for that show wants me to do.,,,

After finishing the memorization task, I wasn’t completely ready to go in, it being such a nice day, so I kept walking. I wound up being out and about on a walk all over the ‘top of the hill’ that lasted until almost noon, though I did stop in at the VBC for a cup of coffee. $2.00 for a cup of coffee… outrageous. Except that it’s ‘refillable’, and I actually had two cups. I gotta get me one of their debit cards…

This afternoon, I’m planning on heading up to Worcester and hanging out at the Java Hut in the early evening, until and come along to take me to ManRay. It turns out that it’s Porn Night at ManRay, and now I’m dithering about whether or not to go. While I definitely like fetishy stuff, I’m not a huge fan or porn, though I’d be hard pressed to explain the difference, exactly. Oh, well, I guess it doesn’t matter much.

Tomorrow I am going to a Harry Potter Marathon, followed by the new Prisoner of Azkhaban movie. If there’s time afterward, I may go to Drum and Dance in Cambridge, depending on how exhausted I am after all of that. We’ll see. Sunday I plan to sleep in late, and go to poetry in the evening.
