Dovetails are a pain in the … Well. You get the idea. I probably only needed to cut ten into this board, but I cut sixteen. I still have to chisel out the waste, and cut the other half of the board. The basis of their success, and their fearsome reputation as a tough-to-make joint, is that they’re very nearly bomb-proof when it comes to joining two boards together. They’re also very difficult to get right.
I’m a long way from getting them right. Especially right out of the gate. But I do have a better sense of how to cut them and shape them.
