Two Notes: XKCD, Disraeli, and Zentangle

There was a nice juxtaposition this morning.  XKCD had a funny bit this morning, about bird poop and gasoline and unit cancellation, and a quotation on a site I use for writing inspiration (this one, WordPress) brought this quotation to light from Benjamin Disraeli: “The best way to become acquainted with a subject is to write a book about it.”  I laughed, because I’m writing something now as a way of explaining my discoveries as an artist.  And I really liked the image of a car’s fuel-efficiency being measured as a ribbon or tube of fuel of a specific size stretching from origin point to destination.

This blog is closing in on two big milestones: 60,000 views, and 3000 posts in four years. Sometimes the ribbon of words on this blog is thick, and the posts come regularly and heavily: 1,200 words one day, 6,000 the next.  Sometimes the ribbon of words is just a trickle.  Thank you, readers, for sticking with me.

Finally, a shout-out to Rick and Maria at Zentangle.com, who found my blog and realized what I was doing, and recognized the connection of what I’m doing to what they’re doing. They sent me one of their wonderful, beautiful kits, which I’ve displayed here, along with Maria’s card — and one of my own drawings (that of Al-Jabhah, “the Brow” or 10th Mansion of the Moon).
