Today, I had such a good breath rhythm going, that I just kept going from Five Golden Coins right into Eight Pieces of Silk, right into the form. It’s not typical that I do that. I usually take a 1-minute break between each style. Today I plowed all the way through in one continuous series of movements. By the end I was breathing quite differently than I had when I began.
Breath is at the core of tai chi, and it’s worth reminding onesself every half-dozen days or so to focus on breathwork as you’re doing the form. Actually, it’s so important that I really should be checking myself every posture to be sure I’m breathing correctly.
