At my new school, the weekly bulletin is actually posted via slide show on a big flatscreen monitor at the front of the school. It has a word of the week, announcements, birthdays, and other information.
To my surprise, I’ve been asked to take over the creation of these slide shows, even though I’m totally new to the school. It’s a major project every week. Yikes!
On the other hand, I want to do it. It’s a chance to post not only the English department’s Word of the Week, but also the “Painting of the Week”, the “Diagram of the Week”, the “Historical Turning Point of the Week” and the “Nature Moment of the Week”. Yeah, the titles are hokey, but why not? We have this fabulous machine that runs throughout the school day, and it’s a chance to make sure that everyone in school has a chance to connect multiple ideas in their minds. To expose them to good art, and to the natural world all around them.
And yes, it’s a big responsibility. But I think I’m up to the challenge. Don’t you?
What types of information would you show to the whole middle school every week? My first draft slideshow has the following:
- Announcements
- Birthdays
- Quote of the Week
- Photos around School
- Word of the Week (three slides showing variant forms of the same root)
- World-Changing Diagrams
- Nature Moment
What else?
