The Internet seems to be down. I’m able to receive mail, but not send it. I’m able to reach some websites but not others. The sites I can reach are their latest iterations — it’s not cached, it’s life. Sites I can’t reach present me with a notice that I cannot access the internet.
Anyone know what is going on?
My company experienced a similar failure this weekend, following through until Monday morning. Two of our T1 lines went down. Maybe our T1 provider also handles the Internet for your campus. It’s possible they’re going through an infrastructure overhaul of some sort, such as hardware upgrades that require downtime. In those cases, they usually notify the system administrators, whose responsibility it is to e-mail all their users. Unfortunately, the sysadmins don’t always do that b/c e-mail lists might not necessarily exist for an entire school or company.
We always got network downtime warnings a day in advance at Duke b/c we had a very robust mailing list manager on the server, and IT was so integral to campus life; but boarding schools just don’t depend on e-mail for all-campus announcements when voicemail is so much quicker.
