Between the Fifth Grade and Comments…

is the same thing as being between Scylla and Charybdis. Or a rock and a hard place.

I was planning on going to Where your Mouth is, and then realized that the open mic started at 7. Given that I have to be at dinner here at school until 6:30, I figured, I’ll eat dinner, and then drive up. I’ll be late, but it’ll be ok. Then at dinner, my department chair reminded me that he’s leaving right after the end of school, and could I please have my comments done by then? And MC came up and reminded me that the fifth grade had their dance — excuse me, MOVEMENT performance last night, and I said I’d come, wouldn’t I?

Glumly, I said I had to work on comments, and so I did. Heard from mom and dad, though, for an hour in the middle of comments; and then called after her dinner with , and a couple of other phone calls… and… and…

I didn’t make where your mouth is or the fifth grade show, and I only got two comments done. At least I got the introductory paragraphs done, describing what each of my classes did in general over the course of the term. So I’m not entirely up the creek without a boat, at least. Still, I didn’t get done nearly what I wanted to.

I’m going to Amherst Drum and Dance tonight, regardless. The first exam is here this morning (reading and foreign languages), so I’ll have an hour this morning to get some comments done. Then a short day of classes, and then fencing practicee — in theory I’ll be able to leave campus around 4:30-4:45 to get to dinner and AD&D in time to see , F & T, and various other folks in Amherst. I’m looking forward to it.

Oh, yeah — if anyone wishes to go to Amherst Drum and Dance from the LJ/Worcester-poetry community, and get your groove on, comment here and I’ll leave directions…. Nah, let’s do it this way. Basically, here are the directions:

  1. Re: Two Points…

    1) I’m sorry you won’t be there.
    2) I do have Stormtroop Tactics by Bruce Gudmundsson, and I’ll bring that tonight to give to Annie. I can use Delicious Library to check it out to you! Woohoo!
    3) I would be delighted and interested in helping you work out a script and some of the technical issues, if you like. We could also just get a half-dozen copies of the play, Medea, and do the tragedy. Not recommended, though. It’s probably better to work out a positive playscript with a Greek-style chorus to be the audience, and we can photocopy the songs for them. Can you meet for a significant block of time in the Worcester area between March 18 and March 25?
    4) Have you read The Order of the Stick lately?

  2. Thank you.
Just finding out that my Jeep is totalled is causing a bit of an issue…and my f*cking husband has had his cell phone turned off all day so I can’t get in touch with him to even discuss the evenings plans. I have a feeling that we are going to be stranded at home for a while…I’m sorry :-(. Thanks though

  3. We missed you, but we’ll be making more every Thursday & it gives me bits to look forward to. Have fun tonight & decompress, sounds like you’ve been working hard all week.

    • Good, I’m glad I’m not completely out of the loop. And yes, I’ve been working way harder than I like to at this time of the year.

  5. Ok! Andrew and I understand that one? Don’t we Andrew?

    It will get better.

If tonight doesn’t work you can always go to Cambridge D&D tomorrow.

  6. Hi there!
Thanks for getting in touch :-). I have to check with Jay, as we had a crappy difficult morning where we are trying to work on our “connection” abilities :-(. We’ve both been so busy lately that we are starting to lose touch. He was interested in doing D&D as of last night, so maybe that will help us with our connection :-). I’ll keep you posted when I get in touch with him 🙂

  7. Two Points…

    …well…actually more like three:

1.) I won’t be at D&D tonight (hence, the other comments).
2.) You mentioned that you had a copy of Stormtroop Tactics by Gunderson. Is that “have a copy” as in, “you can borrow this to read it” or more of a “I got it from somewhere else and had to return it” sort of way? If it’s the former, I’d love to borrow it and I’m sure my lovely and talented girlfriend (who will be at D&D) would ensure that it got to me.
3.) I’m still looking for helpers for this theatre project for SpiritFire, especially at this point where I’m still trying to structure the thing. You seemed really jazzed about it earlier and if you’re still up for it, I could use the aid.
4.) (Okay, I lied) I’m just highly amused when I say I’m going to D&D and it’s not about kobolds and copper pieces. But then I see this weird juxtoposition where everyone is playing a bard and making performance checks.

      See you tonight!

    • We are, love.

Don’t forget to call Tiana and add more people to the dinner list if Cheryl and Jay come with you!

      See you soon….

    • Car Troubles

      It’s OK.

I’m not leaving tonight until 4:30-5:00pm or so, so if you change your minds, let me know.

Also let me know if I can do anything to help you get around locally over the break.
