So… feeling pretty good with all the stuff that went on around me, I foolishly offered to host a dusk-to-dawn bardic circle/storytelling/spoken word event of some sort on 20 March 2004. A combination of open mic, songfest, storytelling circle, I’d want it to be open to my poetry friends, my pagan friends, my drumming friends, and all sorts of folks.

I’ve never done anything like this before.

Bob and Dave suggested that I should see if I can get the WAG to be the venue location. The idea would be that I’d ask for a $7 donation to pay for the space, and a potluck supper contribution for a dinner at midnight. Actually, what I ought to do is say, if your first name begins with A-G, bring a thing for snacks between dusk and midnight, if you’re an H-Q, bring a disk for midnight potluck supper; if you’re R-Z, bring a thing for breakfasty-type goodness.

I thought about holding it at the school, but I’m worried that ’tis too far out of the way. It’s an hour and 45 minutes into Boston from my place, depending on traffic, and a similar distance to the pagan/drumming groups out in the Northampton/Amherst area. That’s a long way to come for an all-night event. Would holding it in Worcester make it more likely for people to come, meet midway between the Boston pagan/drumming community and the Northamtpton drumming/pagan community, and the worcester poetry community gets to participate at a hometown event? Does Worcester even have a pagan/drumming community?

And what do I do about people who want to crash for a little while before going off to whatever their Sunday morning events are?

There’s also the issue of people. I might get sixty or seventy people — that’s $500 at the upper end of the scale. But I also might get twelve, which means we’d fail to get 12 hours of storytelling unless we each took an hour, and the event would collect $84 — and I’d pay all the costs for space rental, insurance (would I need to take out insurance?), food (would I need to buy extra food?), table and/or equipment rental…

Am I in over my head?
