New Year’s Day

Leah and I went to Keepers of the Rhythm yesterday, and their annual New Year’s Day gathering. We had a good time. It was good to see Leah taking a leadership role, playing her drum and dancing at a gathering where she’s considered a core player. And she plays very well.

Afterward, we were supposed to go out to dinner. But the other drummers in KotR weren’t up for it. So we went back to Leah’s place, and she made yummy salmon, and a sauteed spinach recipe based on my suggestions. It was good. She wouldn’t let me do the dishes after cooking breakfast for her and doing the dishes. She was sweet.

Afterward, we watched TV for a little while. I’d never seen Queer Eye for the Straight Guy before, and I was weirdly fascinated, watching them take a poor guy and turn him into a Ralph Lauren-wearing dude. The poor fellow was getting ready to propose to his girlfriend, and the so-called Fab 5 gave him a to-do list a mile long. The guy was sweating terribly.

This morning, I left Leah’s early early to get back for a doctor’s appointment that took ten minutes and amounted to “you’re healthy again, $20 please.” I have a primary care physical on February 20.
