The Sun will enter Libra at the moment of the autumnal equinox at 8:06 pm EDT on 22 September 2026. Austin Coppock‘s name for this decan is The Blindfold and the Sword. T. Susan Chang‘s name for this decan is Blind Equilibrium. The Sun will be in this decan for ten days, four hours, and thirty-nine minutes until 3 October 2026 at 12:45 am EDT. The decan’s planetary ruler is the Moon.

I’ve written about the Sun in Libra I in other years, in 2025 – 2024 – 2023 – 2022 – 2021 – 2020 – 2019. The dodeks, or twelfth parts, of Libra I are Libra of Libra, Scorpio of Libra, Sagittarius of Libra, and Capricorn of Libra. This decan is associated with the Erinyes and the 2 of Swords. The moment of the Sun’s passage to 00° Libra 00′ is also the astrological moment of the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Erinyes (or Kindly Ones) were the deities associated with this 10° stretch of the sky, and the ten-day stretch of the calendar. They were the deities responsible for overseeing, and punishing violations of, the Five Relationships that the Hellenistic era Greeks thought of as critical to social normalcy. The Five Relationships were child-to-parent, youth-to-elder, guest-to-host, slave-to-master, and householder-to-polis. Today, I think of the Erinyes as being the overseers of SIX Relationships which are much more balanced and co-equal: child and parent, youth and elder, guest and host, employee and employer, citizen and state, and finally human and nature. The Six Relationships in the modern era still are tainted by inequalities, as they were in ancient Greece, but we no longer recognize slave-master relationships as valid… and we have a renewed awareness of the fragility of the relationships that exist between nature and ourselves. We are not separated from nature, but integrated with it — and our lives are dependent on other beings in a way that the Greeks themselves did not write about.
As you reflect on the Six Relationships, you may think to yourself, “but I don’t have any children; I don’t have to worry about that” or you may think “But I am self employed; I don’t have an employer,” or you may think, “I’m neither young nor old; I don’t have those kinds of responsibilities.” Nonetheless, you are subject to the Kindly Ones — which is a euphemism coined in ancient times to replace their real names, the Furies. One way or another, you are embedded in all six of these relationships: you breathe the oxygen that the trees around you produced yesterday; you are a subject of your elected officials and the bureaucracies that they oversee and which do terrible things in your names. You are often a guest in the shops and stores that provide you with food. You either answer to clients as a self-employed person, in a way that is similar to your duties to an employer; or you follow rules and regulations laid down by your employer; or you employ people to work in your own house or business, and you owe them a duty of care even if you have temporary power over them. There are people both older and younger than you, who could be either your teachers in the future, or your caretakers — and you have a duty to see to both their education if they’re younger than you; or that they are provided for in the way that you yourself would like to retire, if they are older. One way or another, you are embedded in these webs and ties of relationships, and you cannot escape them — the strands of this web which currently hang loose around you, put other ties in tension; in the future, you may find that the strands which are currently loose and slippery may be sticky, and bind more tightly still.
The Furies stand outside time and space, as gods do, but live in watchful eternity to identify which mortals try to cut themselves free of the web. Then the gods put their own emotional state onto mortals — the humans who try to break free of the Six Relationships are usually bowed down by shame and cowardice, which is often covered over with addictions and other coping mechanisms. In the play by Aeschylus, The Libation Bearers (XXX), the Erinyes try to drive Orestes to suicide, to punish him for killing his mother — a violation of the child-parent relationship. However, Orestes killed his mother for conspiring to kill his father, a different kind of child-parent relationship violation; and also a host-guest relationship violation (since his mother, technically in Greek legal thinking, was a guest in her husband’s house, having left the home of her own parents to join her fortunes with his). Orestes was also haunted by his father’s own violation of the child-parent relationship, since his father sacrificed his other child Iphegenia to the gods for a favorable wind to attack Troy at the start of the Trojan War — a kind of violation of the householder-state relationship. The Furies, in a sense, put violence into every Acheaean household for the indignities and war-crimes of the Trojan War — attempting to pull down the whole web of society’s norms winds up bringing down the whole house on one’s own head. The gravity of the crimes on the inner world of imagination has lasting effects in the outer world, in the form of generational traumas.
We can look today at leaders in business, in government, in culture, in higher education — and see that there many are attempting to free themselves from the burdens of the Six Relationships. Americans, in particular, see themselves as self-reliant individuals who don’t really owe anybody anything. That kind of thinking can be easily exported as a cultural product through Hollywood films and mass-market novels, to say nothing of Instagram reels and hot takes on all sorts of social media. But the Furies still stand guard, ready to wreak havoc and let slip the dogs of rage and shame — shame in those who know that they are violating the deeply held commitments of their religious upbringings to care for the poor and the weak, and rage in those who know that the leaders and movers and shakers are taking a forklift to the pillars of the world.
The Two of Swords is the card in Tarot associated with this decan. It carries the idea of patience, but also of barely contained violence. The suit of Swords in the Waite version of the Tarot, as expressed by Pamela Colman Smith’s art, is associated with Air — intellectual ideas and thought processes and intelligence keenly applied to the problems of one’s life. Yet when we consider the Two of Swords in conjunction with the Kindly Ones, it’s hard not to see that even intellectual violence is still violence. Imagining ourselves free of the burdens of responsibility to our elders, to our youth, to Nature around us, to seeking to be well-governed by the state, or to be welcome in the marketplace — these are invitations to disasters (literally, in Latin, “bad stars”). We are never free of the web, no matter how much we pretend we are.
Dates to Watch
September 22 (and all of September and October) — Neptune sextile Pluto — Continuing through October, the Neptune-Pluto sextile is a time of passing-away and concluding old business so that new visions may emerge and rise. This is no shattering, no fragile breakage — more like a slow unraveling of what no longer serves. The Navajo, first encountering European-made blankets in the early 1600s, loved the colors but found the weave scratchy and ill-suited to their lives; they undid them and rewove the fabric to their own standards. So must you.
September 22 — Mercury sextile Jupiter — you’ll discover that you have clarity about what tasks need doing, and why, and when… but you’ll need to figure out how to fit them into the overall patterns of your life. Don’t lose the details as you rearrange your sense of the big picture. But don’t get so close to the grindstone that you forget why you’re sharpening your skills in the first place.
September 25 — Sun opposes Neptune, trines Pluto — the way that others act toward you is likely to bring on distrust or upset. It’s hard to believe in folks when they’re acting out against you in puzzling ways that seem out of character or almost designed to cause consternation. But avoid both self-sacrifice and bullying. See the day’s troubles as an opportunity to grow into a better person who can stand on your own. Don’t use today’s events either as a reason to commit to a deeper long-term romantic attachment, or to break one up, though — nobody, including you, will be acting as their best selves.
September 26 — Full Moon in Aries (3° Aries 37′) —
September 27, 10:48 pm EDT — Mars enters Leo — Mars starts from Cancer, a place of both triplicity rulership and exile, like a Cabinet Secretary about to be fired by the head of state. This is a place of both temporary authority and unlikely staying power). However, in Leo he’s peregrine — a tourist out on the town, and cut loose from both responsibility and opprobrium. Square to Scorpio and Venus, and trine to Aries and Saturn and Neptune, he’s able to make sparks fly and bring up the temperature in bedroom and bathhouse. Will tempers flare in your life… or romantic ardor?
September 28-29 — Sun trines Uranus — I’m not saying you have to feed twelve dwarves who show up at your door when the local wizard makes a mark on your beautiful green front door… but when excitement and opportunity knock at your door, you should take the hint and accept the invitation. Both scientific and occult disciplines are likely to reveal secrets today.
September 30, 7:44 am EDT — Mercury enters Scorpio — Mercury moves from being an Air triplicity lord to being peregrine — a dutiful division director given the pink slip and given 20 minutes to pack their personal belongings into a banker’s box under watchful and suspicious eyes. Folks in positions of middle management or mid-range executive authority (especially queer folks) might take note of this symbolic downgrade; I’m not saying it will happen to you, much less happen this day… but you should be prepared to hear words used as weapons, and prepared to give a good evidence-based tongue-lashing back. Remember that documentation is almost always also evidence. Be cautious about what you create, while freely curating what you may need. Be sure you read October 1-3 if this day feels particularly precipitous.
October 1 — Mercury squares Mars, Mars trines Neptune — yesterday’s Scorpio ingress may flip the switch to making your figures of speech both sexier and more likely to cause irritation or insult. It may be best, based on the Mars-Neptune trine, to use this superpower to defend and better the lives and positions of others, instead of using it merely to utter vague threats or cast aspersions and defamation. You’ll be more powerful if you use this temporary superpower to support others, than to take down a rival.
October 2 — Mercury squares Pluto, Mars opposes Pluto — Be aware that your backtalk and repartee was witty yesterday, but today your tongue may feel slow and your ear delayed. You won’t be able to impose your viewpoint onto anyone else, and no one is likely to see things from your perspective or walk a mile in your shoes. Yesterday’s fast-talking insult stream may make it harder to win friends today or convince others to join your cause.
October 3 — Sun opposes Saturn — a three-day streak of saying the first thought that comes into your head comes to an end with a solidly reflective and worrying period of reflection in which you consider that maybe you shouldn’t have said things you didn’t mean, and maybe you shouldn’t have said all the mean things that popped into your mind. Weaponized wordplay is great, but it can often break off old alliances and end useful acquaintances. Remember that apologies have to feel sincere, but also be sincere — and must be accompanied by specific plans to amend future behaviors.
House Delineations
The First House of self and self-presentation is Taurus, ruled by opposing and detrimented Venus in Scorpio. The Earth triplicity rulers are opposed and detrimented (Venus), sextile but exiled (Mars) and square (Moon). Dress appropriately for the the weather as though you were a pumpkin spice latte girl, but wear your combat boots like a goth girl who won’t be fucked with. Be prepared to rush to a friend’s defense and provide emotional heavy lifting, but be more relaxed and easy-going about meeting expectations at work: if they ask for 110%, point out that really means 60 or 65%.
The Second House of money and possessions is Gemini, ruled by trining Mercury in Libra. The Air triplicity rulers are sextile (Jupiter, Saturn), or trine (Mercury). Uranus and the Lunar Perigee are present. You may experience a small k-shaped recovery this week that allows you to add a few small perks back into your daily routine but not to cover major capital expenses. This is otherwise known as “treating yourself to avocado toast will not ruin your chances of buying a house.” Take care of your hand-work this week, and lavish some of that expensive hand-cream or lotion on your fingers and wrists; it won’t do you any good if it stays in the jar. If you fear economic troubles on the horizon, enjoy a few good things this week that may not be available later. Eat the fruit that is in season.
The Third House of extended family and intimate friends is Cancer, ruled by the inconjunct Moon in Aquarius. The Water triplicity rulers are present but exiled (Mars), trine but detrimented (Venus), and inconjunct (Moon). The Imum Coeli is present. Find peace of mind this week in creating challenges and contests with friends and family; think game night, not political arguments at the dinner table. Be aware that your spouse or significant other will be a reluctant mediator and peacemaker, and avoid stirring up contentions that you can’t put down by yourself. If you live in a particularly drought-struck region, it’s not a good time to host a campfire in your back yard.
The Fourth House of home, household, and parents is Leo, ruled by the sextile but exiled Sun. The other Fire triplicity rulers are present (Jupiter), or trine but exiled (Saturn). The South Node is present. Be forgiving in how you adjudicate issues that arise among your housemates, whether blood relatives or rent-sharers and sublettors. Daily imbalances are likely to arise and bring with them the hackles that come when unfairness feels too familiar. However, in the long run these concerns with overpaying for not enough are likely to even out this week. Don’t worry too much about the daily balance so much as the week’s overall budget. Your home life is likely to feel somewhat shortchanged overall compared with your professional obligations — but at least some of that is that you’ll be taking up value at work, even while feeling beset on all sides at home.
The Fifth House of pleasures and pastimes is Virgo, ruled by inconjunct Mercury in Libra. The Earth triplicity rulers are sextile but exiled (Mars), inconjunct and detrimented (Venus), and inconjunct (Moon). Having fun this week may require more friendly arguments with your buddies than you really planned on. Make the magic happen by encouraging three- and four-way contests of various sorts — bring the evidence as well as the snacks. Americans might consider filling out their mail-in election ballots together as a wholesome activity — but recognize that fun this week requires more self-discipline than usual, and more active scheduling than normal.
The Sixth House of daily routines, pets, and injuries is Libra, ruled by inconjunct and detrimented Venus in Scorpio. The Air triplicity rulers are present (Mercury), opposed but exiled (Saturn), or sextile (Jupiter). The Sun is present but exiled. You may, like Eva Gabor, “vant to be alone” this week, but you’ll still need to communicate with your team at work, with contractors doing labors for you at home, and with your pet’s veterinary service (not necessarily in an emergency capacity). Get ahead of your scheduling needs and prepare for your Halloween enjoyments now (costumes, candy, party planning). Future fear of hardship is likely to feel more real, but you can do a lot with what you already have at home. Talk out your plan with a significant other who will be less able to see the big picture right now, but can enthusiastically join in.
The Seventh House of spouse, peer partners, and rivals is Scorpio, ruled by trining but exiled Mars in Cancer. The other Water triplicity rulers are present but detrimented (Venus) and square (Moon). Your spouse, significant other and even business partners or competitors may be more secretive than usual, but also strangely conciliatory about what they’re hiding. As the preparations for “spooky season” and Halloween ramp up, you may want to initiate conversations about couples’ costumes — but you may find that other dialogues about sensual play are either stalled or fixate on old habits and patterns. Talk through the difficulties as best you can — possibly with the help of mediators if needed. Asking a colleague to be your date to a romantic evening is likely to land you in the HR office.
The Eighth House of obligation, duty and legacy is Sagittarius, ruled by trining Jupiter in Leo. The other Fire triplicity rulers are sextile but exiled (Sun) or trine but exiled (Saturn). The Lunar Apogee and the Lot of Fortune are both present. You have more choices than usual about how you approach your civic responsibilities this week, and more ability to break with custom or with the normal routines. Act for the betterment of your family and household, but remember what troubled your health or finances in the last year and a half before rushing into new ventures. A plodding, deliberate approach to your task list is more likely to yield results.
The Ninth House of higher learning and long-distance travel is Capricorn, ruled by squaring and exiled Saturn in Aries. The Midheaven is present. The Earth triplicity rulers are inconjunct (Moon), sextile but detrimented (Venus), and opposed but exiled (Mars). Everybody knows that you’re going on the road this coming week and may not be available; but that does mean that there won’t be one or two small emergencies that everyone’s first instinct is to call you in to solve. You don’t have to abandon your travel plans or your personal educational goals, but there is value in coaching someone else by phone to solve the problem; you want the credit for getting the details right, here. Just be aware that you need to help a near-peer at work or at home resolve the issue; don’t send an intern to do a director’s job.
The Tenth House of career and professional reputation is Aquarius, ruled by sextile but exiled Saturn in Aries. The other Air triplicity rulers are opposed (Jupiter) or trine (Mercury). Retrograde Pluto and the North Node are present. It’s a time for figuring out what your long-term career plans are, and how your current employer fits into that system of goal-setting. Identify your key knowledge sets and baskets of skills: what would you take with you if you were to go somewhere else? You don’t have to actually leave, or even make a resume, but you’re probably more valuable to the company than you’ve considered. Identify what you know how to do for your team, and consider delegating some of your intellectual labor to the staff who are ready to receive it; just be ready to mentor them into the work.
The Eleventh House of friends, associates, and allies is Pisces, ruled by inconjunct Jupiter in Leo. The other Water triplicity rulers are inconjunct (Moon), or trine but exiled or detrimented (Mars, Venus). Social occasions with associates and friends may need to be canceled on short notice in order to attend to unexpected familial triumphs, or career-boosting late nights at work. Making up (or making out) with a significant other could take priority over poker night or your bowling league’s fundraiser — but it’s just as likely that you could attend a swingers’ party or kink night in costumes and masks if you have the right conversations.
The Twelfth House of both obstacles and opportunities is Aries, ruled by squaring and exiled Mars in Cancer. The other Fire triplicity rulers are present but exiled and retrograde (Saturn), trine (Jupiter), or opposed and exiled (Sun). Neptune is also present and retrograde. Long-term plans may be compromised or challenged by uneasy connections with extended family and personal confidants. Coursework or important neighborhood projects may be reaching their endings. A review or look back at what you have accomplished is in order, but the bitterness may be tinged with sweetness as well. An expansion of your idea of what “home” is, is in order — celebrate what comes from your local gardens and farm-stands. Attend to the questions of what is just and fair for your local municipality and social circles — but don’t intervene until you have a better handle on the issues. Look back to what you’ve done in order to begin planning for the future.
Horoscopes by Rising Sign
Decan I of any sign (usually covering the 21st of the month to the first of the following month) is free to all visitors; Decan II is only available to Patreon and Ko-Fi.com subscribers; and Decan III is available to Patreon, Ko-Fi, and MailChimp subscribers.
I recommend reading your Sun sign, Moon sign, and Rising sign for best results. I write them with rising sign in mind, but several people have told me they find that they do better with all three.
Taurus: Your personal brand and identity is being set and recognized for about the next six months, and at least some of it may be fixed by what you say to your spouse or significant other. Alberto Villolodo in The Four Agreements wrote that one of the four agreements is to “be impeccable with your word” and you should be aware that your words have more capacity to insult or injure your partner than usual — or to provide a healing balm. Be cautious about saying in public what you know would be upsetting in private. Imagine your ideal job, and consider how that perfect description matches — or doesn’t — your actual workplace experience. What changes can you institute or seek, that would create more alignment? Some banter with a friend may be playful but might require a more fact-based counter-argument.
Gemini: Financial surprises keep taking important monetary decisions out of your hands this week, but you still have to pay for your weekly needs like grocery shopping or getting gas. Have cash on hand before your bank card gets deactivated for fraud, and lay in a store of supplies for your kids or for your current leisure activities before an Amazon account goes wonky. A friend may cancel plans, crying poverty and the difficulties of travel in the current environment; be cautious about volunteering your own resources to make up the difference. However, be prepared to go the extra mile for someone you want to keep close to your heart, even if it brings you more trouble to address their needs immediately. A spouse or significant other may be testing their wings against obvious limits; help them understand both their freedoms and their boundaries with clarity and grace.
Cancer: You may have to lean into some secret ambitions this week — especially if they require more than a little magic to make happen. You’re likely to find yourself in places where important choices have to be made, which may cut off or burn certain options… but still bring you peace of mind. Sometimes it’s important to be the one who says “no” to everything at work… bring both the receipts and the better vision if you know you’re the naysayer at a meeting. Household matters may require a certain plodding commitment to knowing your grocery list by heart and explaining quotidian tasks to adults who should know better. A significant other may get the glory while you do the labor — but it’s just for the short-term. Try to avoid popping their balloon if you want to keep the peace.
Leo: Settle into every locality you visit this week as a temporary home. Take up the whole table in your favorite coffee house. Invite a few friends to join you at lunch and take up the whole room with your conversation. Be expansive in how you occupy space — but when you’re on the road, be a defensive driver. Keep your mask on in airports and planes. It’s ok to shrink back while traveling, and do what you can to become unnoticeable and more ordinary than usual: a prince while in residence and a pauper on pilgrimage. When you can, work from home (with a broader definition of home), but be conscious of maintaining operational secrecy; shield and dim your computer screen and don’t leave your network open. A significant other may need to intervene financially on your behalf in ways that feel both needed and imbalanced — be prepared to take time to untangle this particular snarl.
Virgo: Pleasure, delight, and hobbies — and yes, also likely your children, this close to the start of school — may be something of a financial priority this week. Yet it’s likely to take the form of last-minute expenses, like the 8:30 pm run to a convenience store to find the right components for a science project due the following morning OR running out of your favorite pen just before completing a crossword puzzle. You may find a whole series of logistical challenges running interference on your life this week as necessary resources or funds don’t seem to be available when and where you want them. Nor can you count on being able to “stock up last minute” — this is as much about the hunt, and communicating your needs, as it is about the absence. Expect to have at least one banter-filled discussion about whether product X or Y is the superior component of your perfect leisure activities.
Libra: Plodding day-to-day through this week may feel hard, especially when you’d like to fast-forward past the hard parts to the triumphant rest. Dark talk about death may feel appealing and beautiful this week, especially when considering the costs of being in painful relationships. A spouse or significant other may be looking at immediate cutbacks in their ability to be useful and stressed about their long-term future. There are no guarantees, but your most rational guidance and hard-nosed career advice may not be fully appreciated in the moment. Consider sending them to friends who can provide them with more encouragement and kindness than forceful and direct intervention. Try wearing yellow to send away some troubling old ghosts and draw kinder friends closer. Your specialized knowledge and personal hobbies could make you a little money this week and provide some emotional satisfaction.
Scorpio: Relationships and partnership will be much on your mind this week, but it’s likely that you’ll have to go out of your way for a spouse, significant other, or even a rivalry, to get what you want. At the least, you’re going to have to speak up and speak out and express your desires clearly. If you can manage that, you’re likely to learn a few new magical tricks that bring you to some interesting if occasionally painful places. But it’s worth considering the emotional consequences of your investigations, especially as they affect both your home life and your job setting. Whatever you do is likely to become at least partially publicized: how would you feel about your housemates or co-workers knowing what you’ve been getting up to in your private or personal time? Your own mouth is likely to make promises you’re not able to back up; be sure your bank account is ready to pay for what you decided to want.
Sagittarius: You have more freedom in how you address your duties this week, and you might even get to play hooky from some of them a little while — but that may mean stepping in to help a partner with their all-too-common financial difficulties, and a particular unexpected upset. Home is where you put your heart this week, but career matters bring enjoyment and time with colleagues but little extra new business. Your own hobby time may be interrupted or delayed. You may find your advice is sought but not well-followed by colleagues and allies; connect people with overlapping problems to one another, and then get out of their way while they solve their difficulties together. Be wary of the ways your own efforts to find personal freedom make earthquakes in your partners’ ordinary and needful comforts. Be better known for your generosity this week than your stinginess.
Capricorn: Some travel plans or educational goals need to be set, but you may find these objectives are set for you rather than being self-selected. When they’re imposed, be sure that you request appropriate funds to cover costs beyond hotel and airfare: per diem and tuition may also be appropriate, as well as a rental car or books and materials — and insurance to cover your costs in the event that you can’t go at the last minute. This isn’t necessarily about travel, though, or getting a new certificate with fancy letters to put after your name — this is about anticipating and understanding the overall risk profile of your long-term plan, and doing what you can to safeguard your overall situation. Ask a work colleague to help you lay out the total package of your request.
Aquarius: Professional goals require a professional plan… and an older friend or family member may have more insights into how to use your curriculum vitae‘s past entries to design a fired-up future for yourself. One possibility is to write a “magical biography” of yourself: if you’ve read a few poems aloud to friends while backpacking overseas, you might be able to call yourself “a poet who’s performed for international audiences.” You shouldn’t lie — but you should be able to stretch the truth a little. However, honest answers at home and with direct family are less likely to land you in hot water — offer the unvarnished truth under your own roof and don’t be hornswoggled by your own alchemical placebos. At the same time, have a sense of where you want to be working five years from now, and with whom, and for what causes. You’ll find that sense of trajectory to be marvelous at focusing how you spend your days and hours.
Pisces: Friendship, alliance, and acquaintance should be at the forefront of your mind this week, but you’re going to have to go out of your way to establish those connections yourself — you can’t rely on them to happen naturally or arising as a consequence of your regular routines. Call people up and schedule hang-out time, or plan dinners together. More events are better than just one or two; at least a few will be canceled or delayed due to other pressing matters. The goal should be to create small reasons to bring people together, though — show off your latest project, trade some gossip, talk about your dream jobs, display the injury you got on a recent adventure, hint at your mysterious new lover or dig for dirt on your friend’s new love interest. You don’t have to make it into a seven-hour marathon of a backyard barbecue, either; just try for a coffee date for an hour between errands or a longer lunch away from work.
Aries: Concerns about past troubles and imagined consequences may invite you to stay home inside the wards and protections you have built up around your home address. But your objectives this week require you to make choices at crossroads far from those defended places. You can practice for these journeys beyond the garden wall by visiting your usual haunts with spouse or significant other in tow, or meeting a colleague or employee outside of typical workplace settings. Career-wise, you may need to be on the road to visit colleagues or study with others — but you may find that there are some who are eager to put you in your place, or make clear to you just where you stand in the organization’s hierarchy. Know where you actually stand before you commit to making a scene — but recognize that there’s some unpleasant medicine in a critic’s toxic takedown that might be worth taking.
