Libra II – Two Links of a Chain

On 2 October 2025 at 6:53 pm EDT, the Sun enters Libra II, Two Links of a Chain (as named by Austin CoppockT. Susan Chang called this decan Ties that Bind). The Sun will be in this decan for 10 days, 3 hours, and 15 minutes, moving into Libra III on 12 October 2025 at 10:08 pm EDT.

I’ve written about Libra II previously, in 202420232022202120202019.

Astrological chart for October 2, 2025 at 6:53 pm EDT over western Massachusetts -- Sun at 10° Libra, Moon at 14° Libra, ASCendant at 21° Aries

Associated with the 3 of Swords, which Pamela Colman Smith painted as a heart stabbed with three swords before a rainy, stormy sky, this decan is associated with Saturn under Venus, and with the god Kairos — a deity of time, but not simply the time of clock and calendar, but the right time. Hellenistic Greeks depicted him as a youthful and athletic runner who never paused, and who was completely naked and smooth except for one long forelock — “catch Kairos by the forelock as he goes past” was their equivalent of Opportunity only knocks once. If you succeeded, you were said to be one who could take advantage of the opportunity presented to you. Miss the catch, and — well — heartbreak. The three of swords, and its emotional trials, sorrows, and losses were yours instead.

The irony, of course, is that just because you manage to catch Kairos, or meet Opportunity at the door just as he knocks, is that you’re likely to face a different set of heartbreaks and troubles — because no opportunity comes without emotional and intellectual costs that must be paid. We see something of that in Saturn’s administration of this decan under Venus’ watchful eye: Either you are too slow to take advantage of the creative circumstances that flow to your availability … or you are fast enough to catch them, and now you must have the discipline and dedication to the cause to see this endeavor to its end. There’s heartbreak either way, as well as the intellectual choppiness that comes along with taking on a new project, or regretting the decision to let it go.

The dodeks, or twelfth-parts, of Libra II are Aquarius of Libra, Pisces of Libra, Aries of Libra, and Taurus of Libra. Together they tell a story of the so-called Four Powers of the Sphinx that bring about magical operations (or really any sort of creative project). First there is the knowing-how, and that’s the Aquarian energy. Then comes the daring of Pisces: the mix of courage and cowardice that tinges any creative or magical enterprise. Then comes the doing of Aries, which balances the forces of activity with the forces of self-reflection and honest critique of your own work. Last comes the Taurean energy of silence, resting on one’s accomplishment and honoring the completion with the luxuriant delight of what’s been done.

Dates to Watch

All through these ten days, 2-12 October 2025, the three Upstart planets Uranus-Neptune-Pluto will be in a trine-sextile relationship: Uranus and Pluto form the trine, while Neptune and Pluto form the sextile. It’s a tremulous relationship — Uranus and Pluto give us a favorable set of conditions to self-evaluate our lives and course-correct; but Neptune and Pluto in this configuration offer a window for removing the elements of one’s life that are not working, or for discarding ideas and concepts that you discover are invalid or falsifiable; Robert Hand, in Planets in Transit, implies that the first combination is somewhat forceful but that the second is more conscious and a natural flow from one state of mind to another. Combined…? I am reminded of Isoroku Yamamoto’s alleged remarks after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 — “I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve.” (He probably didn’t say it… which kind of points to the corrective actions that come about under this transit!)

The Full Moon of 6 October 2025 at 11:48 pm EDT occurs in the Second Mansion of the Moon The Little Belly. It’s associated with finding hidden treasures or for officials to cease bullying others — but it’s also associated with people going a little bonkers. Combined with the Mercury square Pluto, below, it suggests an interesting 24 hours.

7 October: Mercury squares Pluto. If our key words for Mercury are things like communication and expertise; and our keywords for Pluto are toxicity and transformation, then this combination might best be described as Mansplaining (or correctile dysfunction if you like)— that tendency of (some) men (and a few women) to talk over others, loudly and forcefully, in ways that are beyond their areas of expertise [and more often than not, directly at people who are already experts in this field]. It’s a good day for curbing our enthusiasms a bit, and trying to avoid voicing opinions in which we have neither a personal stake nor researched knowledge and wisdom. However, just because we keep silent, doesn’t mean we’re not going to be subjected to someone else’s oversharing.

7-8 October: Jupiter and Venus form their sextile, bringing an end to the fifty-six days of the Days of Cedar and Rose — a magical ritual I designed to begin at the first dawn after a Jupiter-Venus conjunction, and last until they meet at the sextile. (You can find more details on my Patreon about the Days). It’s considered a good time to engage in generosity to others, and to handle legal matters, as what is done under this configuration has a tendency to result in a fair exchange of value.

House Delineations

The First House of self and self-presentation is Aries, ruled by inconjunct Mars. Triplicity rulers oppose (Sun), square (Jupiter) or are in aversion (Saturn). Neptune is present but retrograde. The temptation is to armor up or to dress to impress — but there’s something to be said for choosing a counterintuitive approach. Camouflage, either the literal fabric or a more metaphorical way of blending in, may prove advantageous this week. Look at how your rivals and business associates are dressing, and mirror them; save the fancy stuff for social events, or play dress-up for family dinner.

The Second House of money and possessions is Taurus, ruled by trining Venus in Virgo. Triplicity rulers either trine (Venus), square (Moon) or oppose (Mars). The Lunar Perigee is present. Making off-the-cuff and immediate decisions about money is sexy and sensual, and there’s going to be a certain hunger for well-crafted artisanal items on an almost-daily basis. Yet you should keep your professional constraints in mind — when are you next due for a salary increase? What are the chances you’ll get a raise? Also bear in mind the relative fragility and quality of the items you want to purchase; don’t be snookered into buying something that used to be good, either.

The Third House of extended family and intimate friends is Gemini, ruled by trining Mercury in Libra. Triplicity rulers are square (Saturn), trine (Mercury) or inconjunct (Jupiter); Uranus is present but retrograde. Sudden and unexpected rumpuses among your friends or your spouse/significant other’s family are possible, even likely; be wary of discussing these issues with professional colleagues, though; you have no idea how your emotional trials are going to be used against you. Find ways to introduce small pleasures into your daily routines, but make a point of informing your significant other(s — spouse, business partner) of how you’re engaging in this form of delight-inducing self-care.

The Fourth House of home, household, and parents is Cancer, ruled by the inconjunct Moon in Aquarius. Triplicity rulers are trine (Mars) or sextile (Venus) or inconjunct (Moon); Jupiter is present and exalted. You have the know-how and skill-set to address your household responsibilities, although you might have to ask for some assistance in writing the actual to-do list — start with housemates, then widen your circle to close confidants who might have some sense of who’s disappointed in you. Be ambitious in the goals you set for DIY efforts, but don’t be afraid to ask for help, either.

The Fifth House of pleasures and pastimes is Leo, ruled by the sextile but fallen Sun in Libra. The Sun is the only triplicity ruler that isn’t inconjunct, who thus invites you to get out there and do your hobbies with wild abandon, even before your to-do list is done or your chores are finished. However, there is a strong sense of doing some of your pastimes with an eye to making something specifically to bring happiness to a spouse, significant other, cousin, aunt or intimate friend.

The Sixth House of daily routines, pets, and injuries is Virgo, ruled by inconjunct Mercury in Libra. Triplicity rulers are present (Venus), sextile (Mars) or inconjunct (Moon.) The South Node is present. However, Venus and Mercury trade places by mutual reception, lending extra dignity to both. Daily routines and pet health are both well-managed in coming days, but both you and your spouse (significant other, business partner) should converse regularly: “what are you doing today? here’s what I’m doing”. This is to make sure your efforts don’t overlap unnecessarily. Good planning will reduce the layers of burden on you both.

The Seventh House of spouse, peer partners, and rivals is Libra, ruled by inconjunct Venus in Virgo where she’s normally exiled; however, by mutual reception, triplicity rulership, and decan administration, she’s in a remarkably dignified location. The fallen Sun and triplicity ruler Mercury are both present, and Mercury’s position is improved by mutual reception with Venus. the other triplicity rulers are either inconjunct (Saturn) or square (Jupiter). Spousal relationships are likely to be on a remarkably even keel over the next ten days; your future prospects may be somewhat challenging, but local circumstances are liable to be chatty and easy. Trade “to do” lists, focus on achievable aims, and “don’t stop thinkin’ about tomorrow” even if it’s a source of fretfulness at the moment.

The Eighth House of obligation, duty and legacy is Scorpio, ruled by present Mars. The other triplicity rulers are sextile (Venus) and square (Moon). The Lunar Apogee is present. Getting your list of odious chores and tasks sorted out is going to be a source of ambitious achievements this coming week, but you may find yourself wanting to play hooky from them by the end of the ten days — make a point of lining them up and knocking them down early on, and invite friends to help you accomplish them along the way.

The Ninth House of higher learning and long-distance travel is Sagittarius, ruled by inconjunct Jupiter in Cancer. Triplicity rulers either sextile (Sun) or square (Saturn). Travel plans are likely to be undertaken for familial reasons. Writing projects begun during this time are likely to stay “at home” and not make it into the public eye for at least a year. School work, particularly higher-level graduate work, should probably be begun using online resources rather than traveling to take up residence at a school far from your current residence.

The Tenth House of career and professional reputation is Capricorn, ruled by sextile Saturn, retrograde in Pisces. Triplicity rulers are inconjunct (Moon), sextile (Mars) or trine (Venus). You may have to use your rank, privilege, and seniority to get things done — or prevent stupid things from being done in your name. Hold up the ideals and principles of the company or office where you work reliably, and use those high-minded thoughts to slow down what shouldn’t be, or to speed up what must come to pass. Expect that your job is going to require you to use words as weapons in ways that make you feel uncomfortable — but as long as you’re doing so in a mission-driven way rather than as personal vendetta, you’ll be fine.

The Eleventh House of friends, associates, and allies is Aquarius, ruled by inconjunct Saturn retrograde in Pisces. Pluto retrograde is present. So is the Moon in the Twenty-Fifth Mansion, Lucky Star of Hidden Things, providing protection to crops and orchards and buildings, but troubling marriages and challenging city boundaries. The triplicity rulers are either trine (Mercury) or inconjunct (Saturn and Jupiter). Old debts and new obligations crop up — it’s easy to be critical of others who should be your friends, harder still to be even an acquaintance to those who don’t share your ideals. One on one conversation about the current political or economic situation is likely to go better than group discussions; be prepared to let conversations keep spinning back to the same themes: what are the ideals? And what are the achievable realities?

The Twelfth House of both obstacles and opportunities is Pisces, ruled by trining Jupiter exalted in Cancer. The North Node and Saturn retrograde are present. Triplicity rulers are opposed (Venus), trine (Mars) or inconjunct (Moon). Long range plans face restrictions and limits that may soon be eased by familial grace and forbearance, but there’s a mix of delightful circumstances and needling context that bring both sweet and sour feelings. Be cautious of believing anything with your whole chest; check in with partners before committing to plans farther out than a week.

Horoscopes by Rising Sign

Decan I of any sign (usually covering the 21st of the month to the first of the following month) is free to all visitors; Decan II is only available to Patreon and Ko-Fi.com subscribers; and Decan III is available to Patreon, Ko-Fi, and MailChimp subscribers.

I recommend reading your Sun sign, Moon sign, and Rising sign for best results. I write them with rising sign in mind, but several people have told me they find that they do better with all three.

Aries: have you been drinking enough water? It may feel like an imposition of your creative spark to go to the bathroom constantly. Yet fluid intake may help flush the heat from your head. While you’re at it, refill the emotional water bottles of your housemates and family. There’s magic to be found in being someone else’s cup bearer for a while. Your spouse or significant others may have significant opportunities in coming days; it is your job to point them out, and identify both the positive and negative consequences. Help make sure that the choice is theirs, by providing the list of pros and cons but not putting your thumb on the scale one way or the other. In professional circumstances, be wary of acting above your pay grade, but simultaneously work on figuring out how to rise to the next level of leadership. This may involve coaching your boss, the same way you coach your spouse: pros and cons, but no judgment.

Taurus: you may feel that you have set austerity behind you, and that if there’s an immediate need to spend cash, you should. Yet there. are still difficult expenses ahead, and you should be careful indulging yourself from emergency reserves. You’re welcome to find enjoyments in every day, and to find ways to treat and care for yourself — But it’s still important to be discerning and a bit reserved about what you accept. There are rising tides of responsibility in your professional life as well, and a thorough review of the work of subordinates is probably needed to keep things spinning. Be eager to communicate with your team even if you have to be on the road — discern the detail in the 30,000-foot view of the mission, and divide and delegate the work among your forces.

Gemini: circle up with a group of close friends, shoulder to shoulder, and review good times in the past. Expect at least a few tumultuous discussions, but try to hug it out instead of throwing hands. Assume that you can act with generosity towards others, refill everyone’s cup, but do keep an eye on your own. Find a way to keep the conversation spinning. If you must handle business in the next 10 days, try to focus on the ways in which you need to say no to yourself right now. Try to talk yourself out of risky new enthusiasms.

Cancer: you may feel a great deal like a house mother or a stay at home husband in the next 10 days. Your own honey-do list may be overflowing, while a spouse or significant other hoards professional glory. It will be hard to keep to the ideal balance of chore and entertainment, and split communal tasks down the middle in an equitable way. Effectively dividing your professional laborers, between what makes you look good, and what you must do, may bring on the tears. Shine a light where you can on the ways in which chance encounters bind your family or household closer together.

Leo: your next 10 days involve a lot of opportunities for fun, but they require a balance of both solo time, and time with people inside your monkey circle. Who are your closest friends and allies? What are the links by which you are joined together? What sorts of conversations can you spin up between you? Even in one to one romantic relationships or business partnerships, a pro forma post Morton of past mistakes and future idealism can provide much good. Don’t complain too much at home this week, at least not out loud; identify some changes that you can make, and then do them in a way that forces housemates to reconsider their own behavior.

Virgo: there are serious financial matters that need to be addressed; and with a mix of creativity and rational communication, they can probably be solved. Try to remember that it is not about you personally, although it may feel like a deeply upsetting problem that has been dropped in your lap. A spouse or significant other may be facing their own limitations, and trying to be willfully blind to them; it may also be that a business partner is embarrassed to be caught in a trap that they themselves created. You will be better off if you just help them fix the problem. The temptation may be to go to a close friend or confidant and vent. Remember that your private complaints this weekend are likely to become embarrassingly public.

Libra: when making to-do lists this week, try to put the things that you don’t want to do at the very top of the list. Anytime you complete one from the top — do two from the bottom. Allow yourself the luxury of hammering out the hard stuff by doing a few of the tastier bits a little at a time. You may find yourself wanting to express harsh and hard things with weapon-like words; recognize that there may be economic consequences for what you say — but that financial consequences are also likely to hit you even if you’re silent. Your creative endeavors should be part of a daily practice over these next ten days, but you may be deeply dissatisfied with what you create. Remember that all creation is a learning experience that, unfortunately, involves trial and error; learn and enjoy the delightful missteps on the path to excellence.

Scorpio: It would be worth taking some time to identify exactly what you want to do, that you also know will be really hard, and to speak that plan into being, either to a voice recording program, or to a close friend. Talking it out to a close friend is likely to yield some kind of a creative collaboration; although they may fall down on the task and you will have to do all of it. Speaking it to yourself, and maybe writing or drawing it at the same time, is likely to allow it to become more real on several different fronts. If you decide to pursue a project related to your hobbies, you can probably get to work on it right away, but you are also likely to face some challenges. If it is work related, you would be better off doing it alone. If it is a romantic thing, though recognize that your partner or would-be partner, may be much more traditionally minded than you are.

Sagittarius: your upcoming travel plans are likely to involve both a level of deep contentment in a closed environment; and also require emotionally fraught leadership in difficult situations. A significant other in your life will be turning their attention to old times, but may experience existing disruptions in the present moment as a result. Your local environment and community of friends yield both economic advantage, but also emotional sustenance. Find ways to look up with friends and keep those connections, spinning professional matters require both creativity and an acceptance of ongoing limitations. Steady but solitary efforts help you overcome obstacles at home.

Capricorn: professional matters take center stage in the next 10 days, and you can have an opportunity to secure some well earned kudos. Opportunities to earn additional funds may arise; but they come with emotional costs that require you to be critical of friends and allies. One way that this can manifest, is being asked to place criticism in the permanent record. A spouse or significant other may be in need of financial help, but will be reluctant to ask for assistance; dive deep into the real information through conversation that first shines a light on successes, and then creates opportunities for vulnerability. Allow your shared garden to flourish, and make magic by allowing the cup to spill over. Tears over household matters may come from emotional slippage from the past — remember to look toward what you desire.

Aquarius: When you spend time with friends over the next 10 days, especially if they are professional colleagues, it would be a good idea to start with a review of whose turn it is to pay. Obviously, you can start from a place of generous reciprocity, “I think you paid last time let this be on me?” Or you can start from a place of recent poverty, “I had to deal with a big car repair yesterday, would you mind paying?” Let your recent successes and failures be your guide here; but also recognize in both cases you are beginning with a question, and you have to allow for a no. By being upfront about your own status, but also allowing for refusal, you create a situation in which emotional depth and maturity can flourish. There is a lot to be learned from this kind of informed linkage, and it is worth practicing this coming week.

Pisces: in the Bible, there are several occasions when prophets retreat to the tops of mountains in order to watch while God destroys cities. They wind up being very disappointed when the city in question remains perfectly fine and without change. You also may feel a strong desire to retreat from the world, and watch while fire and brimstone rain down from above. Yet it’s worth remembering that the prophets use the time in retreat to rediscover divine mercy. It is OK to be a hermit; it is even possible to take private delight in the consequences that fall on one’s rivals and enemies. Yet, even if you are taking a few days to work from home, remember that there is supposed to be healing while in a state of withdrawal from the world: let go of misery, come back refreshed, and recognize that you have a richer and more bounteous life that need not be either doomscrolling or handing out ominous warnings.
