The Sun enters Leo II The Laurel Wreath, on 1 August 2025 at 8:32 pm EDT. I get this name from Austin Coppock‘s naming conventions, but T. Susan Chang had her own banger of a name: Your Moment in the Sun. Both names carry something of that idea of triumph and victory, even if it’s only temporary. For her, this comes out of the decan’s representation in the card called the Six of Wands, which shows a procession of soldiers in a victory parade, holding aloft their laurel crowns as their general rides in triumph. The Sun will be here for ten days, ten hours, and thirty minutes, before clicking over to Leo III on 12 August 2025 at 7:02 AM EDT.
This is also the decan in which the Jupiter-Venus Conjunction occurs, the Meeting of the Benefics. I use this moment, which occurs roughly every 445 days, to run what I call the Days of Cedar and Rose, a time of special meditation, magic and personal development. You can find out more on my Patreon, and I’ll post more there (and here) in coming days. Read more about this conjunction below.

Sometime after Alexander conquered Egypt, and the Ptolemaic dynasty maintained Hellenic rule over the native populace of Copts, the Greek residents of Egypt learned to associate this decan with the feasts and celebrations of Isis, the wife of Osiris and queen of the gods — and mistress of the magical arts. This season of the year appears to have been associated with the story of how Isis learned the sun-god Ra’s secret name, by making his favorite food and lacing it with poison. She only provided the antidote when he gave up his name, and so learned to share his power and authority with the other gods of Egypt and the world. As a consequence, the Sun is powerful, but not all-powerful — and other gods have a voice and vote in the fate of the world.
It’s a surprisingly democratic theme to find laced into an authoritarian stream of religious tradition, really — that sometimes, the political reduction of tyrants must be accomplished by poison and cunning so that the balance of power can be properly restored. Even so, the tyrant is not deposed, and the Ptolemaic dynasty was not exactly known for its leniency. Isis maintains control through the use of Ra’s secret, sacred name… but she only acquires this by making toxic that which Ra most desires. Is it strange that the Ptolemies maintained control over a foreign land through a mix of spy craft, propaganda, and outright violence? No indeed.
And yet, of all of Egypt’s many deities, it was the two gods honored in Leo’s later decans, Isis and Serapis, who broke free from Egyptian provincialism to become pan-Mediterranean gods. Iseums, or temples dedicated to Isis, have been found from Dura Europus in the northern Tigris-Euphrates valley, to the borders of Scotland; and from the Rhine and Danube banks to Tunisia and Algeria and Libya. Early Christian writers lauded and praised Mary the Mother of Christ, and denigrate Zeus and Poseidon… but seemed reluctant to criticize Isis, whose worship was at least as popular as Jesus for a time between the first and fourth centuries AD.
Maybe they feared poison in their stewed onions. Maybe they feared giving up their secret names, and being ruled by magic.
The four dodeks (From the dodekatemoiria, or 12th parts of each sign of the zodiac), are assigned to Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, matching the process by which the artisan comes to know new skills. First they see the master do it, and observe carefully all that he does. Then they practice this skill in secret, locking away the essentials of it in their vault of wisdom; and this is the typology of Capricorn in Leo. As they come to understand this new skill, they learn to critique their performance of it, and gradually get better at it; this is the nature of Aquarius in Leo. Finally, they gain mastery of it, but wonder if they should use it the same way their teacher did… or if they should put this skill to new purposes and intentions? And that’s the nature of Pisces in Leo. In each dodek, there is a desire to show off, to perform, and to demonstrate skillfulness — which is the overall nature of Leo — but the Sagittarian wants to be honored for correct imitation; the Capricornian for the excellent quality of their practice; the Aquarian for demonstrated improvement; and the Piscean for innovation.
I wrote about this decan in several previous years: in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Dates to Watch
All ten days — Saturn and Neptune are in close proximity to one another all through this week, and both retrograde. Many ancient sources describe Saturn as ropes, chains, boundaries, limitations, walls, and fences; and while delineations for Neptune are considerably younger (the planet was only discovered in 1846), it’s useful to think of it in this context as scissors, pliers, bolt-cutters, invasive species, record-breakers, wrecking-balls, and wire-snips. That is to say, be aware that in many ways you’re likely to find yourself limited or constricted — and that new methods or solutions may suddenly present themselves if you have the daring and vision to try them — and the fortitude to finish them or arduous path.
All ten days — Uranus and Neptune will also be sextile, which usually indicates a sudden and not always casual obsession with occult or esoteric or spiritual matters among people. Not you of course — you’re already reading an astrology blog. You don’t have to worry about becoming obsessed with occult matters… rather, you have to be concerned that you’ll be seen as the expert in the room. A friend of mine, a different Andrew, used to quote an old boss of his, “I can only remember five things day-to-day; I try to make sure they’re not wrong.” Try to be really honest about telling your friends only what you know to be useful or genuinely believe to be true; otherwise, make skepticism and nuance part of your guidance.
6 August 2025, 7:23 pm EDT — Mars enters Libra. While Mars is a triplicity ruler (or high-level deputy like a secretary of state or a lieutenant governor) in Virgo, in Libra he’s a mall security officer — a would-be law enforcement officer in a badly fitting uniform with a plastic badge, no arrest powers, and not authorized to carry weapons in the performance of his duties. He’s largely there to make customers feel safe, and to harass teenagers who hang out in the food court for too long. The part of your life where Libra appears, you may find yourself either wanting to play policeman, or having to deal with people who want to play policeman (or who are actually police). It’s worth considering what your (or their) actual authority is in this situation, and whether the right to intervene or enforce laws or behaviors, is real. It’s also worth considering how this desire to enforce behaviors manifests as violence.
7-8-9-10 August 2025 — Mars opposes Saturn and Neptune. First read Mars in Libra, above, then Saturn and Neptune together above that — and then consider how this plays out as a pair of forces in contention with one another. Mars may want to command and control (and use violence to enforce that control), but the actual rules (Saturn) and the larger visions (Neptune) may be drastically out of alignment with one another. Resist your own urges to take power where you have none; but resist the ways in which others try to take power that isn’t theirs, as well. Take a cold shower if you have to, but dampen the fiery urge to get stuff done that isn’t yours to do.
9 August 2025, 3:55 am EDT — Full Moon at 16° Aquarius 59′, in the Twenty-Fifth Mansion The Lucky Star of Hidden Things. This Mansion is represented by the image of a man planting trees, and while it’s good for making buildings strong or increasing the fruitfulness of an orchard or making sure a message is seen on-time, it’s also considered a warning for places besieged or for captives in confinement; and it indicates a time when lovers withdraw from one another.
8-9-10-11-12 August 2025 — Mars trines Uranus from 0° and 1° Libra to 1° Gemini. This period usually represents an exciting or unexpected break from routines and a discovery of new freedoms (that may bring unexpected consequences later). You’re also separated from a usual set of duties or chores. It’s often a time of personal blossoming or self-discovery, but rarely requires breaking down all hesitancy.
The Venus-Jupiter Conjunction
The Venus-Jupiter conjunction at 14° Cancer 03′ occurs on August 12, 2025 at 1:29 am EDT. For US East Coasters this occurs in the second house of wealth and possessions, with the Moon in Pisces being received by Jupiter in the lead-up to the conjunction, and with Venus acting as a triplicity ruler to the Moon as well. It’s a favorable for career and promotions and for financial gain for those who take notice of it.
14° of Cancer is also the degree of Sirius, one of the Behenian Stars, the list of fifteen fixed stars that comes down to us from ancient times as stars of special astrological, astronomical and navigational significance. Also called the Dog Star, its heliacal rising heralded the annual Inundation or flooding of the Nile river, and instigated the “Dog Days of Summer” when it added its light and heat to the power of the Sun and brought on the strongest and most prosperous part of summertime in the northern hemisphere. It’s a symbol of fame, wealth, renown and good fortune.
This combination, then, of the Lesser Benefic of Venus, and the Greater Benefic of Jupiter, with the Dog Star, is unusually propitious and favorable. I’m an occasional mead-maker, and I usually start a new batch of mead every time this conjunction rolls around — I’m expecting this particular batch to become unusually delicious. It’s lessened, somewhat, by the complicated double-square/opposition of Saturn-Neptune in Aries and Mars in Libra — but both the visible planets are either in exile/fall or detriment, and discovering the limits of their power in the face of united, joyful delight. Meanwhile, the Moon as ruler of Cancer is in her 28th Mansion — the Belly of the Fish — promising great feasting, the conclusion of challenging cycles and the origination of new possibilities. There’s still some ugliness for her to swim through… but this is likely to inaugurate exciting new possibilities.
Let’s end this with a caution, though — in traditional astrology, the Malefic planets Saturn and Mars do bad things to you. But the Benefic planets Jupiter and Venus don’t just push good stuff at you — they provide you with opportunities to do good for others. Don’t rest on this — make this a chance to lead your friends and family and colleagues into great merriment and joy.
It’s up to you, readers, to send the good into the world, and not just receive it. And this is part of the reason I consider this the best day to begin a deeper practice of astrological devotion, which I call the Days of Cedar and Rose after the two principal plants of Jupiter and Venus — which also happen to make a delightful and unusual incense combination.
House Delineations
The First House of self and self-presentation is Aquarius ruled by sextile Saturn who is retrograde, in exile, and closely aligned with Neptune. Relationships with friends and family will help define who you are this week, and how you present yourself in the world. Be aware of the ways that your youth and exuberance alarm your elders; be honest about the ways that you’re older but not necessarily wiser than your juniors. Pluto is present and retrograde, making your financial and economic decisions seem like the principal priorities in your life — and worthy of criticism and outrage from outside. Make decisions that you’re proud of now — and will be seen as honorable five years dom now.
The Second House of money and possessions is Pisces, ruled by trining Jupiter exalted in Cancer — but triplicity ruler Mars opposes from Virgo although both the Moon and Venus act from favorable trines. Your economic situation is likely to improve through daily labors and professional endeavors, but there will be actually hard work to do that can’t be delegated or delayed. Anxiety about money, rather than actual dearth, is likely to dog your steps. Try to adopt realistic beliefs about your bank account and property.
The Third House of extended family and intimate friends is Aries, ruled by inconjunct Mars in Virgo where he is a triplicity ruler. Triplicity ruler Saturn is present but in exile and retrograde — you may have to be the adult in the room when you’d rather engage in child-like play. Mentors and teachers are likely to disappoint you. Of the other triplicity rulers, exalted Jupiter squares but the ruling Sun trines — there’s hard work you have to lead with the assistance of friends but a spouse or other close special relationship brings supportive splendor and excellence.
The Fourth House of home, household, and parents is Taurus ruled by sextile Venus in Cancer and supported by the exalted Jupiter. Home is likely to be a place of deep emotional and physical safety, but requires deep daily investment in routines and labor for the physical structure and emotional attachments. Cultivate beautiful spiritual routines at home — but also clean it.
The Fifth House of pleasures and pastimes is Gemini, ruled by retrograde Mercury in Leo. Uranus is present, bringing an overthrow of commitments to your habitual entertainments. Long delayed conversations about hobbies are finally held with a spouse or significant other. Although Mercury is peregrine in Leo, at the moment they’re in their own term/bound — a place of strong rationality and honest emotional responses to hot or hard situations. Feel what you feel, of course — but speak from your brain and not just your heart about how you want to spend your time.
The Sixth House of daily routines, pets, and injuries is Cancer, ruled by the exiled but trining Moon in Scorpio, and hosting both Jupiter and Venus (who will conjunct August 14, initiating the Days of Cedar and Rose). A good chunk of your daily efforts these next ten days will be fast-changing, and also characterized by hard choices between what needs to be done and what you would prefer to be doing. Your team members and subordinates will wrestle with these same issues — be creative and emotionally attuned to their challenges and needs, and support them with kindness and compassion wherever possible.
The Seventh House of spouse, peer partners, and rivals is Leo, ruled by the present Sun and hosting retrograde Mercury. Triplicity ruler Saturn is trine but retrograde and in exile. Upheavals in close familial connections, and a lack of clear communication may cause hardships in your primary relationships. Keep revisiting your principal connections — reaffirm both emotional desire and rationales for being connected.
The Eighth House of obligation, duty and legacy is Virgo, ruled by inconjunct Mercury retrograde and supported by the triplicity rulers Venus and the Moon who are both sextile; and Mars who is present. One of Mercury’s titles is Lord of perfected intelligence, perfectly applied — but at the moment they’re answering petitions with “we are experiencing a very high volume of calls; please leave a callback number.” Instead, your issues will have to be addressed with a mix of creativity, determination, and working for what you want — despite tears and distress.
The Ninth House of higher learning and long-distance travel is Libra, ruled by squaring Venus in Cancer. Travel is costly, and there will be a need to do risk-reward analysis of your planned trips and programs of learning. Are your efforts helping you acquire new skills? Is there an appropriate mix of risk and reward? On a day-to-day basis, you may feel that you’re not getting the things that you want out of your spiritual life, but sometimes it’s necessary to lay foundations for other people before good things come your way; remember that intercession (prayer on behalf of others) is likely to do you more good for you than you think it will.
The Tenth House of career and professional reputation is Scorpio, ruled by sextile Mars in Virgo, and hosting the Moon in exile as triplicity ruler close to the apogee. A planet that’s both a triplicity ruler but in exile (which are Venus in Virgo, the Moon in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer, or Saturn in Aries) often functions in one of two major ways: either like a disgraced politician who hasn’t yet left office who does their work perfunctorily or badly and ducks questions from constituents; or like a mediocre white man promoted above his ability. A Buddhist architecture called the Eight Mundane Concerns warns us against becoming overly concerned with questions of Gain and Loss, Praise and Blame, Pleasure and Pain, or Fame or Insignificance. This is a week to do your best work, and to learn to do it better —but not to fall into the trap of wanting acknowledgement or recognition for it.
The Eleventh House of friends, associates, and allies is Sagittarius, ruled by inconjunct Jupiter. Both triplicity rulers, Saturn and the Sun, are trine, making friendships and social time strongly contingent upon the tight obligations imposed by close family members and the needs or issues arising among your most cherished elders, and a more rational set of dialogues between you and a spouse or significant other. The Midheaven is in the first decan of Sagittarius, too — prompting me to warn that whatever you plan to do with your friends and acquaintances, you should do it sooner rather than later in the week… and you should have an exit plan, as well, in case the planned event isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
The Twelfth House of both obstacles and opportunities is Capricorn, ruled by squaring Saturn, retrograde and in exile and closely aligned with Neptune. In planning for both the short-haul and the long term, obstacles and challenges will be far more obvious than new opportunities; the downside will be more visible than the up. As for the Triplicity rulers — Venus is opposed, while Mars is trine and the Moon is sextile. Your ability to plan for the long haul may be delightfully curtailed by the on-the-job training you need to provide for more immediate needs; rush jobs may require reaching into old stock and calling up old friends to help you deliver on a burning need for stuff from the vaults.
Horoscopes by Rising Sign
Decan I of any sign (usually covering the 21st of the month to the first of the following month) is free to all visitors; Decan II is only available to Patreon and Ko-Fi.com subscribers; and Decan III is available to Patreon, Ko-Fi, and MailChimp subscribers.
I recommend reading your Sun sign, Moon sign, and Rising sign for best results. I write them with rising sign in mind, but several people have told me they find that they do better with all three.
Aquarius: Self-criticism may be a competitive sport in your household, and may even be a workplace-culture requirement this week. It may be wise to ask a spouse, a business partner, or a significant other to shine a light on your many good qualities, and on the past occasions in which you have delivered above and beyond the call of duty, on the promises you made and kept. No shade here — bask in the sunlight of your ally’s delight in you. There’s a chance to make big moves that have long-term effects on your personal and professional success, but once you do — there’s roughly two months of nose-to-grinder effort that follows. There are rewards along the way, for you and your team. Imagine yourself as the kind and creative leader they need, and get out in front.
Pisces: Every day may feel like a bit of a financial trap. Your hobbies and passion projects are on the to-do list every day, and you’re making progress on those things. But there are parts, and specialty labor, and shared resources, that you need funds or permission to use (or both) — and the people saying “yes” to your vision are counterbalanced by the people saying “no” to your budget. Where possible, shine a light both on past expenses and future planning. Show that your plan is in line with what has come before, and that the work ahead is likely to be similar to what has been.
Aries: is it your extended family that is causing you grief, or your inner circle of intimate friends? Do you find that you have to keep explaining your big picture higher vision to people? Do you find that you keep having to rehash old history that folks ought to remember are you teaching the same material over and over again? If so, you may find that the next three years of Saturn passing through your first house are going to be deeply challenging. But remember that Neptune is also passing through for about the next 13 years and your higher vision is likely to come to light if you can keep pressing on despite the plotting course of everybody in your circle (should I say coven? Let’s say club, for now). For a few days more, you will find that you seem to be fighting all of your subordinates, and getting pushed back from everything that you’re trying to do. But big changes are coming to both your inner circle, and you’re going to get a chance to turn your house into the dreamy show place that you’ve always imagined it to be, where you get to be in the lead. There’s some big work that needs to be done, and you will need the help of a partner or significant other, but with currently feels like a trap May in time become a palace. Just think more creatively about both your aesthetic and the underlying ethics that support it.
Taurus: it is OK if you find yourself slipping into very traditional roles in your household or family on a day-to-day basis. You may find yourself spending considerable time with your “cousins” and “besties”, who will expect you to take on traditionally feminine roles with the work of your hands; but also, expect you to take charge in traditionally masculine ways, even as they blame you for bossing them around. Assembling the three amigos will be important, but you may find yourself wanting to raise a glass and be with the most important person in your life and tell them of your adventures and some detail. This time that is supposed to be so enjoyable, late summer, may feel considerably more contentious and frustrating than you had hoped. Setting boundaries, and asking your inner circle to set some long range visions may insight your higher passions. How can promoting yourself lead to greater professional stature? It’s hard to know, but now is the time to be thinking about your personal brand.
Gemini: The next 10 days promise a range of surprising delights that bring deep contentment, as long as you can get over “the hump” of a couple of unwelcome ridges or difficult climbs. Plan on establishing a few boundaries, both with friends, and difficult relatives, but hold out a vision of a future together over the next few years. Financial matters receive a favorable boost, but you may have to ask for what you want be a rational communicator with your primary partner, and be clear about both your expectations, and your hopes as you review recent events. Keep an eye on your home: there are difficult circumstances that may arise if chores are left undone. Don’t worry too much about career matters, although there may be trouble at the office. Consider how long distance travel actually affect your overall economic situation and review recent expense files for a needful but potentially harsh learning experience.
Cancer: the Venus Jupiter conjunction with serious occurs, smack dab in the middle of your first house, and brings charm and delight, and a beautiful day, if you let it be so. It’s not exactly a “challenge” but rather an opportunity, that you may be asked to step into leadership positions, or take a particularly creative or unusual posting in your day-to-day work. It may be something that you deeply desire, but it also “breaks the rules” as you understand them, and there are a few risks associated with taking this on. Chances are nobody is going to call you on it, but it’s worth thinking through with supervisors or managers. It’s also likely to bring unexpected disruptions to your long-term plans, but also provide amazing opportunities for growth and vision, as long as you can put up with some difficulties in the first three years. Take a long hard look at the financial impossibilities that are on offer, and study carefully how this restricts familial and friendly routines — but do all of this quickly; the chance may vanish as quickly as it appears.
Leo: Peer to peer relationships are at the core of your current endeavors. Make a point of talking one on one with each person that is essential to your success, rather than trying to arrange a big round table where you can all talk. In this case, you won’t be able to hear what everybody says, and everybody will wind up talking more about past times then considering what the future holds. You can’t afford that. There’s money that is running out and you have resources that have to be shared with others. Your desire for a clear identity for home, and a clear path to a better profession, are likely to be blocked this week, and every opportunity for a romantic twist also seems to involve a transactional bargain that doesn’t feel right. Be careful of climbing into bed for the sake of money; but also be careful of money that comes along with a romp in the sack your next big and delightful vision for the future is likely to emerge over the next two weeks, pay attention to that upcoming Jupiter-Venus conjunction mentioned above.
Virgo: you’ve probably had a few weeks of hardship as Marsh has passed through your first house, while the south node grinds around. There’s likely to be a spate of either “no news” or “good news” as this process concludes; but you should be prepared for the arrival of the invoices that may follow the delivery of no or new information. Once you have the data that you need in hand, consider breaking your long-standing rules about limiting who you share it with, you may find that the circle of care is much larger than you believed it to be, and you will derive great happiness from discovering how far your influence extends. If you are self-employed, there is advantage in reviewing your personal brand standards and understanding how your personality interfaces with your companies, professional in appearance. You may need to separate out your personal commitments to family and household from corporate commitments to your boss or employer this week. The Jupiter-Venus conjunction is likely to bring considerably good benefits to you in your social or political capacities — call up your friends and lead them into your grand hopes for the future.
Libra: travel expands the mind, of course. Just the act of trying to keep all of the tickets in the correct pocket, hold onto your official travel documents, and remember whether to use euros or British pounds – all of these things will require your attention this week. On the other hand, make a point of trying some rare and unusual dishes, and encourage others to sample more broadly away from their usual menu. Encourage tasting and discover how sweet the world can be. Recognize that breaking these kinds of rules carries a certain stigma in a post pandemic world, but recognize that there is a beautiful delight in sharing what we have guarded against for so long. It would be worthwhile to invest some of your time and energy and money into making your house both more sacred and more practically comfortable. This may require spending money that you don’t feel you have. This may lead to some friction or delay with a spouse, but if you make a plan for how you’d like the place to look 10 years from now or more, you may find that you are able to share a vision together that is greater than either of you could develop on your own. Just remember to take small steps. Career matters are highlighted by the Jupiter-Venus conjunction: step into any leadership role that is offered whether formally or informally.
Scorpio: you know the aphorism, friends help you move; true friends help you move bodies? I don’t think you’re necessarily going to be moving corpses, but some of your friends know about the skeletons in your closet, and that may lead to arguments this week. The ties of friendship can bind us tightly, but you never know who the weakest link is. Your own professional goals, or objectives may be unexpectedly blocked this week by the same contentions; your desire to move quickly and change things fast, may be a source of that contention, and lead to money troubles in your household. If you have a spouse or significant, other or roommate, they may want you to adopt a more traditional or conservative mindset, even if you would prefer to be wildly, deliciously, uncontrolled. It’s worth saying that a slow and steady pace in your daily endeavors is likely to bring you closer to A. long range vision you hold deer. Going on long journeys to deep waters in honor of the Venus-Jupiter conjunction would also do you some deep good, but would require you to upend long-standing plans and obligations.
Sagittarius: you may have to act quickly on the number of fronts this week, in order to preserve family, wealth, or maintain your household, and its stability. This will require slow and plotting action on a day-to-day basis, even as you separate and divide your task list into numerous minute details. For a number of years now, it has felt like you haven’t been able to plan your day well, but you may find that a return to traditional forms of record-keeping like a journal serve you more effectively than either random scraps of paper or a clever new phone app. Being in partnership requires deep attention to roll with unexpected changes this week, but it’s also a source of deep contentment. The Jupiter Venus conjunction probably makes your to-do list a lot longer than you would like it to be, but you get to be a creative and compassionate leader in challenging times, and people will look up to you. Form strong partnerships for long-term learning, and use the resources that you have created in the past to build an amazing future. It’s not quite time for your career life to improve, but soon you’ll get to soothe the troubles of your friends — your skills as a compassionate observer and caretaker will be much in demand and very useful.
Capricorn: your ability to reach deep into the sellers and pull out long, stored solutions, may be challenged by problems in your own basement this week; but “basement” may refer to the subconscious levels of your family, or to the very real needs of your household’s physical equipment in the seller: things like the furnace and the water heater. Take inventory of important equipment in your household capital plan, and devise strategies for replacement of worn or ancient machinery. Of course these kinds of things require money, and you should’ve started setting aside cash for it sometime ago. But maybe you did? It’s time to review your accounting strategies and see whether you planned for a future that you didn’t know would arrive. You can’t expect your day-to-day schedule to remain unsurprising, but you may find that your relationships with key partners are deeply sweetened in coming days, whether in boardroom or bedroom.. It would be valuable, not simply to do your regular household tasks, but to shine a light on them, and to communicate that they have been completed. You may find that this makes some of your far off, adventuring spirit a little bit more welcome when returning home. A friend may offer an extraordinary opportunity to bend or break the rules, but it would be worth refusing this invitation; you can acknowledge that it would have been delightful, but also allow for the fact that the moment has probably passed.
