Full Moon in Leo

On February 12, 2025 at 8:54 am EST, the Full Moon will appear at 24° Leo 6′, in the decan called The Banner, and the twelfth Mansion of the Moon called The Tail of Leo, or The Changer.

A personal note — I’ve spent a lot of time in my decans astrology columns learning how to write from a Solar perspective. The Solar perspective is very much directed outward, shining light on everything, whether good or bad or ugly. But this is (maybe) the beginning of a new series, outlining the series of changes that occur from the Moon’s movement, which is a more internal light… hah! A more reflective light, perhaps?

It may be worth giving me some time to find my footing on this particular path.

My thought is to publish this new type of column two to four times a month — once before the new moon, and once before the full moon, and then also around eclipse days, whether they’re visible where I live or not — and what they might mean for each sign. This isn’t going to be a full “solar horoscope” column. But will be an attempt to capture some themes for meditation and consideration in your work and workings. And now, on with the show.

Astrological chart for the Full Moon of February 12, 2025 at 24° Leo 6', culminating at 8:54 am EST (over western Massachusetts). ASC at 15° Aries, Sun at 24° Aquarius.

The traditional image associated with the Twelfth Mansion is that of a dragon fighting with a man. It’s associated with strife, conflict, and combat, as well as separation and hinderance to movement. Some sources indicate that it’s favorable for increase of plants and harvests, but that it brings destruction to ships and travelers by sea, but it improves the status of one’s allies and servants so they remain steadfast and honest.

From this point until February 27, 2025 at 7:44 pm EST, the Sun will be waning from this position — if you intend to do work to improve the state of your garden, or to strengthen your relationships with allies and employees? The moment for contending with the dragon is coming, and you’d best know what power is in your corner before you stand up to fight. Do you know the difference between the weeds and the useful plants in your garden? Now might be a time to read up on the various plants, to know what they look like as seedlings and plants, before their flowers and fruits appear.

Once the Full Moon occurs, figure out how to put your team of allies, or the planned seedlings in your garden, to work for you to defeat the challenges you believe to be most important. But it is worth remembering — the Moon does not retrograde, though she returns to similar themes roughly every twenty-eight days. This means that the issues raised by Mansions fifteen through twenty-seven will continue to wane in March, while the issues of Mansions twelve, thirteen, and fourteen will start rising or growing again next month.

What are these issues? First of all, the Twelfth Mansion represents the idea of conflict — the man fighting a dragon. There will be a continuing sense, this month, that when it comes to certain kinds of issues — both the themes of conflict-for-the-sake-of-conflict itself, as well as arguments or discussions of issues like sexuality and sexual identity, and dissolution of systems, are likely to hit a few speed bumps this month, which will slow down their collapse or vanishing; but that the conflicts around these issues are likely to grow and expand next month. These are issues wrapped around the Twelfth through Fourteenth Mansions.

It’s the Fifteenth through Twenty-Seventh Mansions where we hit a number of issues that are going to continue to slide into trouble over the next six weeks, because the Moon will be waning again as she passes through them after the next Full Moon in Virgo. These Mansions are concerned with issues like marriage and divorce, the rights and safety of women, the formation of new relationships, commercial relationships and theft of property, successful and safe travel by land or air or sea, the protection of natural resources, health management through medicine and pharmacy as well as contraception, or the separation of religious and political functions in a society.

It thus becomes important to direct one’s attention further forward than current events, in order to guess and anticipate how these issues might affect you.

I still think I have a long way to go to understand the Moon’s gyrations and how to interpret her workings on the affairs of mortals like us. But this is a beginning of that work, and I hope you find it thought-provoking and useful in your own reflections.
