So… Apple has published iBooks Author. Publishing may never be the same.
We’re looking at a world in which having access to a computer almost guarantees having access to the power to publish. And now Apple has made the tools that much easier to work with. I can publish small collections of my poetry from this website. I can write that book on Geometry for Magicians that I’ve contemplated for a few years, without the mess of having to run a store. I can write a textbook for my classes to use, and make it available easily and quickly, and bypass the expense of using a traditional publisher. It’s putting money in Apple’s pocket, too. I think we’ll have to review the software and licenses and any wealth-sharing agreements very carefully.
