Merry Christmas

Deck the hall with boughs of holly,
fa la la la la, la la la la!

‘Tis the season to be jolly,
fa la la la la, la la la la!

Don we now our gay apparel,
fa la la la la, la la la la!

Troll the ancient Yule-tide carol,
fa la la la la, la la la la!

A joyous and merry Christmas to all you gentle readers, and a very happy new year to you all.  One of the things I’ve always liked about this carol which I’ve listed above, is that it is a reminder that the terms of Yule and Christmas and the Holly-Season were once interchangeable terms.  The Holly King, or lord of Winter, is an ancient druidic symbol in the world of flowers and trees for the constellation of Orion — balancing out the Summer King, the constellation of Hercules (and represented by oak leaves at midsummer).
May your celebrations in the dark time of the year be full of joy and peace, celebration, good food, and most of all laughter and glad tiding.  We all need it.
