It turns out that the BBC’s signals from 47 years ago are bouncing back from a region of space about 25 light-years out.. So far, telescopes and radio telescopes haven’t determined the source of the bounce-back, although it’s probably not alien life beaming our old TV shows back to us. It’s probably dust in interstellar space, or maybe an asteroid field, although it’s unlikely to be a planet or anything very serious.
On the other hand, we’re recovering old episodes of Doctor Who that haven’t been seen in 40 years, so the Universe is providing a huge benefit even as it provides another mystery.
