I thought this was pretty good.
Today, on my Facebook account, I watched some friends of mine — Americans, all — gloating about the police using pepper spray on the students at UC Davis. “They had what was coming to them. The students should have dispersed when they had the chance. Their gathering was illegal.”
And of course, my other friends decry this as a perfect example of police-out-of-control, of the beginnings of tyranny.
It now seems largely impossible to help one group empathize with the other, or to help one group comprehend the mindset of the other.
To quote Thomas Jefferson, “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just.”
