Specter Ponders Impeachment Proceedings?

Arlen Specter Mentions Impeachment Hearings as a possible remedy for domestic spying?

From the New York TImes.

OK, so he admitted it as a theoretical possibility, while being very careful to say that it’s not in fact being discussed formally. Still, it’s a red flag to the White House, saying, “you are on dangerously thin ice here. Watch your step, and listen for cracking sounds.”

  1. Plus, it’d really be political suicide to push forward that particular basis for impeachment.

Do you want to go on TV and have someone ask you, in regards to your investigation, “So, you oppose the Administration wanting the same ability to hunt down a group of men who want to kill you and your family as they have to hunt the corner dope dealer?”

Or, “Don’t you think that someone speaking to an Al Quaeda operative is someone the American people should be concerned about?”

If you thought “soft on crime” was a political bullet with folks’ names on it in elections, whoo-ee, imagine the brutality “soft on terrorism” when they use your own questioning against you would be.

No good can come of this strategy. Ergo, its a posturing bluff.
