Working it.

Someone has cut and edited the movie, The Shining, to produce a trailer for a completely different film.

It’s hysterical.

My own writing went OK, yesterday. I only got one and a half pages finished on the Inarion. which means four and a half pages today.

The other thing is that I finally get to use “bezoar” in a series of serious sentences. I learned this word from reading the Sandman comics, so very long ago. A bezoar is a stony accretion from a stomach, usually a ruminant animal, which helped the animal in digestion, and which served as a treatment for various ailments. Ultimately from the Persian, “padhzar”, meaning “antidote”. A trichnobezoar is a lump of hair cut out of someone’s stomach — sometimes they are precious gems. In any case, my tub and shower were draining very slowly, so I took a pair of chopsticks and fished out the blockage. Turns out it was, essentially, a bezoar — a lump of hair and grease — blocking the drain. It’s not really a bezoar, of course, because it’s not from someone’s stomach, but it still looks like a bezoar. Thankfully, my shower drains properly now. One more way that long hair is probably more trouble than it’s worth; the bezoars formed of the hair you lose or break block your sink and tub drains. I threw away the chopsticks, of course. (and look, I get to tag the entry with “bezoar” too. How cool is that?)

Finally heard from the game company. They’re trying to get the schedule back on track, so they were just going to run with my first drafts. I made a counter-proposal to correct my redlines — which were apparently done, and just waiting for all the others to be done. huh? Why hold up on sending out redlines? Send them, get a deadline date in the air, and work it.

Oh, well. Not me that has to deal with the post-production blues. I gave my editor a timeframe, and we’ll see what happens. Back to writing.

  1. are you a harry potter fan? a bezoar comes into play at a crucial moment in the most recent book. and yeah, i know well that feeling one gets of being smitten with a word, looking for any chance to use it. “brachiation” has been a crush word of mine for years…
