I’m staying with my parents for a few days to enjoy the house they rented for two weeks, and to hang with my folks. We’re having a great time. Kayaking every day, swimming every day, good food. the house itself is wonderful… the owners are artists, and the cabinets are filled with the husband’s pottery, and we feast on his artwork every day. her stuff is not so good; calls it dark.
the “delete” button on my laptop’s keyboard is broken. Amazing how much that one key being broken will slow down one’s typing. It’s not permanently wrecked, and it’s not like it won’t operate at all. It’s just loose, so that I actually have to press it a couple of times before actually hitting it. I’m in the middle of a writing project for White Wolf, but it looks like I’ll have to transfer all my files to the desktop machine, and send in this computer after all. I have no microphone, and a broken keyboard, and school is coming… Wonder if the genius bar at an Apple store can fix broken keys on a keyboard. if so, that means a trip to Boston on Monday or Tuesday, and several hours of not-writing. Or hartford… I keep forgetting there’s a store at Corbin’s Corner.
I’m enjoying the book Olympos by Dan Simmons. And here you wanted to recommend it, . Way ahead of you, sorry to say. Go read Hyperion and then we’ll talk.
The woman who lives here has a LOT of books on pagan sensibilities, mostly Starhawk stuff (Circle Round is a guide to bringing your children up in the Old Religion; The Spiral Dance is a book on the rites, ceremonies, wheel of the year, magic, and group dynamics of coven-work. Reminds me that one day I’d like to be involved with a coven or a circle as part of its “leadership”… except that the book makes clear that a rotating leadership is often best. if everyone is their own priest, hierarchies are less needful. The whole book is about flattening hierarchy, in a variety of ways. The other books here are mythological, and I’ve been taking down titles.
is doing some circle work tonight, so I’m staying here in Dartmouth, MA another night, and going home to northeast CT in the morning. Vacation is coming to an end, I guess. in some ways that’s bad, but in other ways it will be good to be doing stuff, and getting ready for school, and planning for classes.
No, the BUTTON itself has broken off. the button-mechanism hasn’t been damaged, only the touch sensitive surface that makes it possible to push the button easily.

I absolutely LOVE the Hyperion Chronicles… they are easily the most literate SF I have ever read…. I didn’t know Dan Simmons had anything new available … is Olympos as good as Hyperion?
