WordSeed Aftermath

and I had a wonderful day together yesterday, though she was not in the best state. Her moon time always hits her hard, and this month was pretty bad for her, at least from my perspective. I was profoundly distressed for her, though ther was little I could do for her other than give her some of the pain medication I had from when I had kidney stones.

We spent the morning making delicious things to eat for WordSeed and for ‘s party. I made a variant on Mom’s carrot salad, and Leah made a green salad for the party, and guacamole for WordSeed. Maybe it’s my recipe, but she does it even better than I do.

About ten of two we went over to ‘s school, for food and some conversation. We met for the first time, and encountered again, as well. It was nice to meet them, and meet again. With luck, we won’t have to wait several more months for the next meeting, but these things happen as they must. The whole party then drove down to the state park for an Ostara ritual. got to call in Water, and I told the story of Persephone’s coming out of the Cave of Hades into the light, and taking the name Kore. By that point it was 4pm, and we had to head back home to pack, and get ready for our own rituals.

WordSeed

WordSeed went well. We had eighteen people (, , , , , and me, plus K & MJ, Maggie, her guy, Tsadie, L and I, M and R, Jon H, and P. I keep thinking there’s someone else but my brain is fried and I can’t remember who). I would have liked more people, but it felt like there was enough to do what we wanted to do. The drumming was sweet and juicy, the poetry was elegant and wise, and the times when we stopped for food, drink and discussion were equally nice. brought a couple of flutes, P did some b-boy dancing with mini-cartwheels and such, and even and were beginning to bounce and dance a little (don’t deny it: I saw your heads bobbing!) I felt like we did everything I wanted to do, and I think feels the same.

The big question in my mind, though, is whether there’s enough interest in doing this again in July. I’d like to — we collected around a hundred cans, though I haven’t counted them yet. We took in $80 in donations, which is likely going to cover the food for the event, paper plates and such, some cash for the V.A.C. and not much more. So…

I’d like to hear back from people who attended…
… who wanted to attend but couldn’t…
… who intended to come but forgot…
…who wouldn’t dream of attending…
…who had other pressing committments…

Does Worcester want/need this kind of performance space and style? Should we do it again?

  1. I’m sorry it’s not…

Is there anything that could be done to make it more your kind of event?

Do you think it’s the kind of thing that would appeal to others, but somehow it wasn’t properly presented?

Probably not. I’ll drop you an email with more detail.

I think it will/does appeal to others. New events take time to find an “audience”. Eighteen is a goodly number for a young quarterly event in my opinion.

  2. For me, the first half of July will be full of things. After AHO, I will be out of state til like the 13th or so. Please don’t have it before I’m back, lest I miss.

  4. We’re looking at a July date for WordSummer, assuming there’s some interest and people want to commit to coming.

I’ll stop by sometime tomorrow or Tuesday to pick up my yellow bowl and white tureen, if that’s good for you

  5. Actually, I sent a request to you and Melissa both asking you to be in attendance and perform. When I didn’t hear back, I assumed you both had other plans.

I’m sorry it was just a matter of you being without car — we probably could have made arrangements to get you there somehow. I’m not sure what those arrangements would have been, not knowing if you were in Somerville or Wrocester, but we could have done something….

Next time will probably be July. How’s your July schedule?

  6. I really wanted to come, and will definitely try to come next time (depending on the date).
Thank you two for coming yesterday! (We have your dishware to return to you :-)…).

    • Sorry we missed the event. It sounded fun and I would have gone if the coven wasn’t celebrating Spring. July we’ll be on tour…unless it’s early July??

      🙂

    • Alas! We’ve got people saying “hold it in late July because I’m away in early July!” and people saying “Hold it in early July because I’m away in late July!”

Maybe we should hold off until August…. 🙂

    • i feel silly

I thought I had mentioned Andrew’s drum circle was on Saturday night, but I could have spaced it, there was so much going on….

it was awesome…. I wish more of Shakti had been there!

    • Re: i feel silly

I’m glad you had a good time, and I’m sorry that more of Shakti wasn’t there, either. Maybe next time you all can play a major role in it. It would be nice to have the event ‘ritualized’ by a team of women poets explaining their spirituality and common life-threads.
