Happy Veterans Day.
May you who are veterans have a night untroubled by dreams of mortar shells, machine gun fire, whistling gas bombs, exploding grenades, and silent stalkers in the night. May you forget the trenches, the jungles, the ruined buildings, the heroin, the morphine, and the phantoms and ghosts of your military days, both the headless buddies and the merciless choosers of the slain. May you rest easy in your graves, and may you stand watch over us in the halls of the dead, urging us to a day when they shall beat the swords into plough shares, and their spears into pruning hooks. May you know a day when nation shall not lift its arms against nation, neither learn war, any more.
Amen, Amen, Amen.
