Easy as stepping off a log into crocodiles?

Headline I saw today: Reagan Memory Gone at Death

and I thought, “Who’s Reagan?”

Oh, if only it were that easy…

    I appreciate that.

I really ought to explain myself a little further. I do not usually allow my political tendancies to interfere with my friendships or my loves. And, truthfully, that is not the case here, either. Several of my acquaintances have made comments in their journals that I would find distasteful no matter the party affiliation of their subject. I am greiving, and I want to disassociate myself from those who are insensitive to greif.

Your comment was scarcely objectionable relative to some of the others that I have read lately. I felt the need to be consistent, though it pained me to turn my back on you. However, you are the only one who has expressed any desire to maintain a dialogue with me. Others have shown themselves willing to abandon a friendship for the sake of malicious humor.

Please accept my apology for mistaking you for such a person. It can only be the newness of my association with you that allowed me to make such an error.

  2. Alas.

Alas, I feel my three-second quip has cost us both dearly. It is symbolic of the state of modern political debate that the death of the Great Communicator causes liberals and conservatives to stop talking or listening to one another at all.

I will keep you on my friends list, as a symbol of my desire to keep listening.

  3. I am removing from my friends list those who could not delay snarky comments at least until the body is buried. I am sorry to find that you are one of these people.
