Hanging with my folks

I’m going to be at home for the next few days, because of grandma’s death. Dad is reacting to his mom’s passing with a combination of the worst aspects of his control-freak-isms, and the best parts of his organization and attention to detail. It’s an odd combination. Mom is dealing even less well with this behavior than normal. It’s odd to be a grounding line for both my parents at the same time. They get emotional about the oddest things. Mom has broken four pieces of china or glass today already, and dad keeps losing stuff. I should mention that Mom isn’t throwing things, she’s just dropping them by accident or turning around and smashing her coffee cup against something else. It’s a sure sign that they’re upset.

This isn’t quite how I planned to spend my vacation, but it seems to be a worthy use of time.

  1. Sometimes schedules look like vacations but they are something else. I like the way the universe works that way, to give you the time to be with your family.
