5. whatever strikes me – i take a lot from people who haven’t had a voice, be them actual or biblical or whatever. editing used to be touch and go – it’s a lot more concrete now but i’m also writing a lot more page poetry (with my spoken word stuff, i can wing it). i decide to memorize what i’m going to compete with or what i really love.

The drama part. No drama=love in my real life, so I get all I want, creativity, costuming, the part of me who always wanted to be an actor. Its far more intense then other kinds of gaming, because its all-immersive.

Learned about Spirit from my work at AV? I don’t know that I’ve learned anything -about- Spirit from that work. I’ve learned a bit about people, a bit about business, but so far, no Great Revelations. And this is perfectly fine. This venture is one of service, not study…

I didn’t want to lose track of you or where you were in the world, and this is an easy way to know what you’re doing and what you’re about. I rejoice in your happinesses, and mourn your sadnesses, and I like being able to think about you form your own words and doings.

I knew you first as a poet, but I tend to think of you first and foremost as a gamer, even though a) I’ve never gamed with you, really, and b) Lia is more of a gamer than you were when I first met you. That said, you’re an awesome poet, too, and I miss hearing your words.

I like that you’re bright and perky, but that you’re not particularly afraid of your dark side. You know how to access it, use it, empower it when you need to, and let go of it when it doesn’t serve you. Not many can do that.

Watching you perform Jabberwocky and having the JavaHut utterly silent because hey, it was a poem the DramatiKids knew and cared about.

What part or parts of you gets fed by being a LARPer? How is it different for you than other kinds of gaming?

You are/were a poet, your writing impressed me, and your presence on stage was startling. Plus, you wanted to be a teacher. Three out of three is pretty good.

Hmm. I think of you as being a hipster, or at least one of the cool kids in a way that I never was. Culturally literate, aware of the classics, able to speak about the overtones of Macbeth in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but not fully engaged with that, either.

You were complimentary to a group of poets at JavaHut once. After a feature, there were a bunch of poets around you buying chapbooks; and the ones who had read, you had nice things to say. Not sappy things, but you made it seem like you’d been paying attention and noticing what people said. You listened.

You even had something nice to say about me, which was pretty cool after the kick-as* feature you’d just done.

How do you go about finding subject matter for your poetry? How do you go about refining the initial decision into words on a page, and how do you decide what to commit to memory?

In addition to being friends, we’re kindred spirits. We’re insiders and outsiders in fire circle/drumming cultures, attracted to rules and order in a community that thrives on a certain degree of chaos; yet respected nonetheless because of our interest in forms and meaning and the ability to expound upon same.
2. Associate you with something – fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
Well, we’re both students of forrestry, and that counts for something. We’re also turtles. And I think of the color green when I think of you, though why that should be, I don’t know.

I like that you’re open to trying new things. You were willing to attempt to become a poet, and that worked out well. You have done this livejournal thing reasonably well, and you’ve engaged with the DIY spirit of making your house a better and more beautiful home, and you’ve become a recording engineer. You seem to get positive outcomes from a great many of the things you try.

the first thing I always think of is “This is the temple of the Buddha of the 33 hands,” for better or worse. I loved that mini-jam.

Can we get together soon-ish after school ends? Wait, that’s about us. Ummm… What do you feel you’ve learned about Spirit from being the master/manager/principal of Authentic Voices Studio?

Well, you’re my friend, silly.
2. Associate you with something – fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
I think of you as a priestess of fire, which is by no means an easy thing to be in the 21st century, when the fires seem to be few and far between. It’s part of the reason I always bounce new chants off of you; if you latch on to them then it’s a kind of confirmation that I’m on the right track at the right time.

I like your flightiness, and your ability to sail through trouble. These days it seems to find me, and you seem to float past it.

Walking around Cambridge or Somerville (still not sure quite where we were) and talking after Thai food and went back to work. It seemed a perfect way to spend the day.

Does anything frustrate you or upset you about fire circle community or culture? What would you do to fix it, if you had the power?
