I’ve updated my website. There’s an experimental podcast on New Kingdom Egypt, and a podcast describing our Sunreturn night here in northeast Connecticut, and a short movie of me learning to breathe fire. The last one is particularly cool.
There’s also a gallery of photos of Clio attached to this page, which is not particularly well-designed, but could work well with a little more thought into how it should be set up.
I’ve got the ability through mac.com to use a domain name that I buy the rights to, but they don’t offer the service to buy the rights to a domain name. Anyone have thoughts on how to go about buying or registering a web domain name, what domain name I should buy, and whether or not mac.com is a good hosting service?

Highly recommend them. They’ve got everything you’ll probably ever need for hosting (you won’t outgrow it like you might with .mac) and I can say that having had them for years, you end up with all the storage and bandwidth you probably ever need.

The phrase you’re looking for is “domain registrar”. Most of them are the same. I use DreamHost.com as registrar and host, and have been very happy with them. 000Domains is another popular one (that starts with zeros, not Ohs).
If you go with someone else, read the fine print to make sure you own the name when it runs out and you’re able to freely transfer. Lycos had a web hosting service and had some language about owning the domain name for a while if you didn’t renew. I think their intentions were more about the argumentative user whose name got taken when the registration lapsed, but the impact was skeevey.
Names, no specific suggestions. Imagine telling someone your email address. The name should be easy to grasp. No underscores, no dashes. Numbers are ambiguous (is it the number “23”, or spelled out?). People expect .com , and I’m careful to say “.net , the .com one was taken” .
Any plans to post more recent pictures of Clio? With green trees in the background, I suspect those are a few months old. Is she still puppy-round, or is she growing into her legs?
