School’s out!

Today is the second day since school ended.  I was running around yesterday, trying to get stuff done, but now I am done.  School is out, and I’m finished.  The graduation exercises on Sunday were good, but I spent most of the afternoon stretched out on the couch napping, or chatting with my former student J., or my recently-former student A.  It took A most of the afternoon to clean his room, because he is useless when it comes to organizing his belongings or cleaning up after himself.  Yes, I know you read this, A… and you know what I’m saying here is true.  Whoever inspects rooms at LA is going to chew you up and spit you out before your first day is over.

Anyway, on to other stuff.  I’ve been doing 45-50 minutes of cardiovascular workout every day for several weeks now, and I’m making some progress with that.  Today was my first 1000-calorie workout day.  It was not as early in the day as I wanted it to be — I usually go at 5:00am — because I was feeling bad about the state of my apartment.  So I spent the morning cleaning, organizing and purging, and then went down to the gym around 11:30.  I worked out for 50 minutes on the treadmill, then came back up to the apartment, and put together a lunch plate for myself.  Then I showered, and then I ate lunch.  It felt good to get out of the shower and have lunch waiting for me like that.

Going to a picnic at a colleague’s house this afternoon, and then coming back later.  Thinking about going to a poetry reading tonight — trevor Byrne-Smith is the feature. Should be good, if I can muster the energy to get there.

you’re USELESS WHEN IT COMES TO ORGANIZING YOUR BELONGINGS.

That’s not the same thing as saying you’re useless. Because you’re not.

Hope to talk to you soon, too.

  2. It’s A.

Thanks for the mention in your journal, allowing the world to know
that I’m complete slob, and saying I’m useless.
    lol >.< I can't thank you enough.

  6. hey man,

if you are trying to slim down, be very carefull of being too aggressive – even eating right, you can damage your heart muscle by losing muscle instead of fat.

here are some ways to avoid it:

    1. buy a bodyfat % scale, and do the math to make sure you are only dropping fat. they aren’t the most accurate things in absolute numbers, but worth it to track relative changes.

    2. supplement with BCAAs (branched chain amino acids) – if these are coming in regularly, your body will tend not to turn to muscle stores for energy.

    3. eat 5+ times a day (ever 2-3 hours) and keep your diet FULL of protein – top the tank off whenever possible and avoid all refined sugars and high-glycemic index foods (to avoid ever spiking your blood sugar – this will keep your body demanding energy from fat stores).

    just my $.02 🙂
