Supreme Power in a Crisis?

Bush Anoints Himself as the Insurer of Constitutional Government in Emergency | The Progressive

EXCERPT:

With scarcely a mention in the mainstream media, President Bush has ordered up a plan for responding to a catastrophic attack.

In a new National Security Presidential Directive, Bush lays out his plans for dealing with a “catastrophic emergency.” Under that plan, he entrusts himself with leading the entire federal government, not just the Executive Branch. And he gives himself the responsibility “for ensuring constitutional government.” He laid this all out in a document entitled “National Security Presidential Directive/NSPD 51“ and “Homeland Security Presidential Directive/HSPD-20.“

The White House released it on May 9.

I know, I know…  01/20/09 and all that.  We can’t wait for him to step down and leave office, etc. etc.  But folks, I gotta be honest here. This particular administration has been so problematic, that part of me has been wondering for three years now whether he will actually leave office, or whether there will be some kind of “continuing emergency” which ‘will require his ongoing presence.’

I hope not, mind you. But part of me fears it greatly.

  1. HI Love.

I have been joking all along that he is going to do something to stay longer than his term.
I was mostly kidding… I guess maybe not?

  2. What’s he gonna do? Turn the Army on us? Oh that’s right. They’re 10,000 miles away in Iraq dying for his stupid war. No one is going to let him stay any longer than he’s entitled to. What with granting illegal aliens “amnesty”, his own party doesn’t want him around any more.

    It’s scary, but ultimately futile.

    later
    Tom
