Exercise

Did my tai chi, and ran my mile route this morning. It was easier than the other day, though I wish I’d done it yesterday. I was able to speed up on the rising grade by the dining hall on the way home, which was exciting. The body adjusts to doing exercise remarkably well — but I’m glad we didn’t start with the mile run at the start of the fencing season, either.

Meeting a bunch of folks from work for breakfast in about 20 minutes. We have a favorite breakfast place in Putnam, and it’s delightful to hang out there and have breakfast in good company. This is good company.

Then and I are going shopping for a new car. Her Toyota died over the weekend, and her mechanic neighbor thought she needed a major overhaul of the engine, or a new car. The car is only worth about $400, so it makes sense to get her a new vehicle. This is an awkward thing to do, just after Christmas, and it could be easier than we’ve made it for ourselves — but it needs to be done. She can’t get to work without a car, and it’s something she needs just to get around this part of the state.

Wish us good vibes.

  1. I guess it would depend on how good the rest of her car is. Mine was definitely worth putting in a new engine (yay for plastic cars!). The engine cost around $1200 (with extra things done as well), and I certainly couldn’t have found a good car for that money.
