Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell

I have just finished reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It is about the unlikely friendship, rivalry, enmity and cooperation between two magicians at the height of the Napoleonic Wars. It is also about the Raven King, vassal of Oberon and Lucifer, and ruler of Northern England, and Vinculus, the sorceror.

I have to say, I am mightily impressed. This might just be the best fantasy novel since the Lord of the Rings. It’s profoundly refreshing and powerful. I loved it.

  1. That’s better than…

That’s better than buying the book and discovering that someone has cast a spell to make the book’s pages blank, or vanish from the possession of anyone who buys it.

    Which happens in the book.

  2. I keep looking at that book saying “I really have to read that!” and then I get to the library and blank out on the author AND the full name of the book!
