I’m not at all sure I want to attend this high school. But maybe it will be fun.
Went to Frantic Rabbit tonight. Read Isaiah Stumbling in the second round, and Oedipus Noir in the first round. I need to write some new stuff. BG suggested I move to Worcester, and apply for the Jacob Knight Award next year. I guess I do have to live in central Massachusetts for that, huh?
Hung out with and for a while after the reading. We got food at Wendy’s, then went up to the Tower. I’d never been before, and it was impressive. But I have to wonder — what were you thinking, Stephen Salisbury III? Why did a former secretary of the Navy need a tower as his memorial, especially in a town so far from the sea? Why are there no symbols carved in your building? Why is there no memorial text, no flowers or acanthus leaves? In a time when art and architecture were booming, and bronze statues were going up all over, why was a gatehouse for a wall that never was, the fitting memorial for a man who built no fortresses, and disdained the use of them?
What were you up to, Stephen?
Finally came home after talking with the kids who’d been up in the tower. They weren’t mean… but not exactly friendly either. I suppose I come off as a narc to them. Who knows? and went off in search of more friendly shoes — I stuck around for a while, look out at the city, and finally decided to come home.
Tomorrow have t’ai chi again at 6am. We’ll see how that goes.
I climbed into that tower twice…once when I was 17 and once when I was 30, just to prove I still could. The view is much better from the top. There’s a dedication on the flagstones in front of the tower, can’t remember the guy’s name, but it’s been suggested the memorializer & the memorilizee were lovers….hmmm…dual phallic symbols?

Well, you know, we had all this rock, and it was a really good price. They really screwed up my tower, locking it off like that. You used to really be able to see things from there. I was running behind on the design deadline, and I’d just finished “MacBeth” so in a late-night frenzy, I thought I’d build a good sturdy set piece. Sorry you’re not terribly fond of it, but thanks for visiting. There used to be another tower like it in town, but they knocked it over a while back. Thanks for visiting.
