Down with the Sickness, part II

So this bug in my throat just won’t seem to go away. I get over the worst of it — the voicelessness, the laryngitis, the feelings of tiredness — and then it comes back in a different form.

Today, it’s a lump in the left lower side of my throat that is a dull ache most of the time, but hurts when I swallow. Again, only on the left side. My left ear is also a little clogged up and achey. Tomorrow, if it persists, I’m going to go get checked out for strep again.

That said, got out her book by Louise H, or somebody like that. Louise says that if you’ve got pains in your left side, they’re really psychosomatic symptoms of a problem with receptivity, creativity, relationships, your feminine energies, or your mom. In similar fashion, throat trouble has to do with blocked creativity and failed communication.

Interestingly enough, a lot of this is what I was having trouble with this weekend. I’m feeling rather disconnected from the wider communities I’m part of — and I’m aware that part of the reason I’m feeling disconnected is that it’s near the end of the school year, and I haven’t seen most of them since… oh, August or so. And I’m feeling kind of forgotten.

That said, a number of friends have reached out to me recently. CS and I got to hang out a little bit yesterday, and I finally got to connect with JP and . Speaking of whom, I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said “potters for peace”. Apparently there’s a genuine organization of ceramicists interested in peace activism. You might see if you can locate such a bumper sticker for yourself.

  3. You’ll notice I’m planning on getting checked for strep again in the morning?

And it’s not appendicitis. I already don’t have an appendix due to appendicitis.

  4. Of course, sometimes pains in your left side indicate appendicitis, and soon thereafter, death. Which might be disconnection, but really puts paid to that whole silly left-side-psychosomatia thing, not to mention if your left arm hurts and you blame it on emotional detachment and not incipient coronary thrombosis, you deserve what you get.
