Two Days.

came to dinner at school last night. I hope she had a good time; I certainly did, and it was fun showing one of my poetic friends around school. She pointed out that her house often has poet camped on the couch, and that workshops could be arranged for fees, as well as performances. I think this would be a good idea, provided that poets could stick to a G or PG format. I don’t wish for a camping-out poet to cost me my day job for cursing in front of a large number of 10-year-olds. This would be bad.

Today was long.

Tomorrow’s the funeral. I’ll be away most of the day. Lots of folks are covering for me at school tomorrow, and I’m so thankful to all of them. I couldn’t do my job without seeing my colleagues and knowing what wonderful people they are. Even when they drive me crazy, I know that they’re reaching kids that I’m not. And that’s the wonder of this job — we all reach somebody, and change lives in need of change. It’s amazing.
