I really want a ger (otherwise known as a yurt). Frankly, I don’t know what I’d do with such a thing. I don’t really have space to store it, and I don’t know how I would be able to set it up at the festivals I go to, and maybe the thing would get used five or eight days a year. This seems silly. Nonetheless, I have it in the back of my mind that one day, I want to do the festival thing in style, and have a ger to sleep in, with a comfortable mattress on a viking frame bed. I don’t suppose anyone knows where I could get a viking frame bed, or knows how to make one?
The first day of school was a royal pain, and my computer is giving me hassles. This means I’m going to have to send it in next week for repairs. So I’ll be doing a lot of extra work on my desktop machine, and not having a whole lot of time in the evenings to work on my projects until it gets back. Joy.
The first day of walking in the woods also went well. I managed to meet the kids, take them for their walk, and find the various trees we were supposed to find in an appropriately long length of time. Brian and I have plans to build a bender out in the woods, and use it as a sweat lodge. It should be very cool, and we’re looking forward to making it work. On the other hand, this means I’m losing an hour of free time every afternoon to wandering in the woods. On the one hand it’s good exercise, and on the other, it’s lost writing time. Decisions, decisions — oh, heck, who am I kidding? It’s not a decision, it’s stuff I gotta do. Shikata na gai. There is no other choice

I’ve been dying for a yurt for years. The first one I ever saw was my second year of Starwood and a friend of mine had the “love yurt” :-). It had black and red fabric around it, he had squishy couches inside, and a really comfy and exotic looking bed :-). I guess he’s even had a water bed in it in the past when he was able to get electricity. Not bad :-).

Yurts are cool, but they are quite a process to set up…my mom has one at her place, with a woodstove and a skylight, but it took 10 people the better part of a day to put together…..go for a big tent…have you seen mine? I got it on ebay for $150 and it is ginormous…I could park my jeep in it, and I can set it up all by myself in half an hour….as for the beds….have you ever tried steve t’s rope beds? He usually has one set up at Rites. They break down to pieces that fit in a car and they are really comfy….they are kind of a hassle to set up and break down tho…mines turned into my everyday(night) bed. PS you gotta wax the ropes to avoid tell-tale creaking ( a tip from Joss that I wish I had heeded earlier)
