During toe touches and deep knee bends, I realized that my butt, thigh and calf muscles were tight. Why not? I spent a goodly number of hours yesterday sitting down on my bum. As a result, I needed to stretch out today. And I did.
And it occurred to me that we’re always doing tai chi. Every bit of energy and movement we have in our days is tai chi. It may not be formal, disciplined movement, but it’s movement and energy. And the kind of energy one expends — sitting, walking, dancing, moving, running — helps fit and set our shape. So if I don’t want to be constantly stretching out my legs and lower back, then I should make a point of sitting on them less, and moving on them more.
